Right now, they can obstruct ANYTHING simply by refusing to vote for cloture, which forces the Dems to have 60 votes in order to get anything passed. Most people don't pay enough attention to the process to realize what's going on. All they know is that the Democratic-controlled congress can't get anything done. Of course, that's exactly what the GOP wants.

Why won't the Dems make the GOP sustain a REAL filibuster? They want to block any and all legislation? Fine! But they have to do the work. It's too easy for them to block legislation. All they have to do is threaten a filibuster and the Dems back down. MAKE THEM DO IT! Let the American people SEE them blocking bill after bill after bill. Let them see who the real problem is in our government!

Am I missing something? Are there rules I'm unaware of that prevent the Dems from forcing the GOP to stand there and talk for hours or days to prevent a vote on a bill?
