Thank You, Democratic Underground
It is times like these, more than any others, that I value my friendships at DU. Some of you I feel I "know," some I know only by your username, but this weekend has been special sharing it with DU.

Watching the coverage since the death Of Senator Kennedy, I found myself turning time and time again to DU. I suppose it's because I knew I would be understood in my grief; a commonality that is shared across this board.

Sorry - not to get too cornball on you - but THANK YOU, DU. The last few days have been so much easier sharing it with those I knew would understand the depth of grief we all felt.

Democratic Underground: It's a great community. Thank you!

3. Oh yes! Thank you all.
Although my family sympathized and felt sad, they did not seem to share my depth of grief. The tears have come so easily for me. If not for DU, I don't know how I would deal with this.

Thank you all.

9. I understand. Noone here would think I was weird for sobbing in public today
though at least the people at the laundromat were kind and didn't change the channel on me after I put it on the funeral this morning.

Thank you DU, for making me not feel alone in my grief.

12. Yeah, couldn't agree more. It helped. These have been a very glum few days for me.
I've spent the last two crying off and on all day over the coverage and the recollections and the images. It's awfully hard to be a liberal and lose a Kennedy. Ouch. Pierces to the heart.

15. Wasn't just last night or the night before, either.
I have turned to friends never met here on DU for comfort and solidarity and inspiration MANY times, during the bad times. During the last eight years, surely thousands of times! I love DU. Thank you everyone for buoying me up when I felt like I was sinking.

17. I think that Teddy dying has opened up old wounds we thought were healed
Maybe for everyone, but for those of us who lived through all the Kennedy deaths it's heartbreaking. We lost something vital when Bobby was killed. The energy he was generating was just like the energy Obama generated during his campaign. Imagine all that excitement just stopped instantly by one bullet and instead of Obama as President we would have McCain now. The very thought should make you feel like the wind just got pushed out of your sails. Just like Nixon who ended up being President because Bobby was killed McCain would have already escalated the Iraq war making sure that we would be there for many more years and many more deaths.

25. I initially discovered DU during the last months of the 08 campaign. I didn't join at first, but
just read. It was such a comfort to see that I wasn't alone in my deep passion. It helped to know that others also suffered times of doubt, even despair, of our fate, but that hope was truly alive. I also was relieved to find that I was not alone in thinking that anyone who would support having that winkin', lyin', smirkin' batshit crazy bitch from the North one ancient heartbeat away from the presidency, must be out of their fucking minds.

So, a million thanks, DU.

29. Agreed. We'll get up this hill together.
I don't always agree with everyone here but I do feel as though people try to listen and argue ardently and learn and share. Times like this, when we're striving so hard to get up that metaphorical hill on the ice, it's great to have people willing to make the climb too...or wait all afternoon.

32. You know what? As life went on around me as usual, I knew my DU family
was sharing my grief, my interest, and my awareness of the historical significance of these days.

It didn't seem to affect everyone the way it affected us.

I would've been alone in my grief if it hadn't been for my DU Community.

I was up late at night and saw the DU thread about Kennedy's death right after it went up. It hit me like a kick in the guts.

Thank you all for being here.

We see history. We live history. We are history.
