Senator Bill Nelson says public option will not pass the Senate.
Bill is the boss of us, I guess.

Nelson told The Ledger in an interview that the public option also can't pass the Senate

During a question-and-answer session Monday with cadets, Nelson said the House version of health care reform cannot get the necessary 60 votes to avoid a filibuster and pass in the Senate. Nelson later told The Ledger in an interview that the public option also can't pass the Senate.

"The public option is only one of hundreds of issues concerned with health care reform," he said. "Public option means different things to different people. Some people think of it as socialized medicine, but that type is not and has not ever been considered.

"Still any public option will not pass," he said.

The House version of health care "has not been endorsed by the Obama Administration and will not get through the Senate," he said.

The Senate version will come out of the Senate Finance Committee, on which Nelson sits, probably sometime in late September.

3. 1.) Why is Nelson even a Democrat? Does he hold any Dem positions?
and 2.) He seems to be indicating he won't even vote for cloture.

5. Where do some of these Congresscritters
get the delusional idea that THEY are SO important that they can unilaterally decide what *can* pass and what *can't*????
:wtf:

The ONLY way we'll know what *can* pass and *can't* is to put it to a straight up-or-down vote! THAT'S what democracy is all about. What HE is talking about is more like, I don't know, a dictatorship, or at least an oligarchy.

:puke:

25. Uhm
We can pass any bill through the Senate with 51 votes. We only need 60 to do away with a fillibuster which I suppose is what all these lies and loaded langauge on the part of the Republicans has really been about. Generate enough angry heat so that they might be able to keep a tiny portion of the 'moderates' on their side when they fillibuster a bill that benefits the majority of the people.

Rahm's tactics of placating the right wing have, once more, horribly failed us.

8. Then, may Nelson RECEIVE THE WRATH OF ALL THOSE WHO NEED HEALTH CARE!!!
And may he be without it, immediately, so that he stands precisely where he advocates.

9. Maybe if the "Family-Church" man would vote for it, it would pass.
He's one of those idiots who praise medicare like jeebus, but refuses to do anything for the rest of those who aren't 65 or older.. Insurance is the way. This guy needs to retire and allow us to run a better dem.. We don't need a DINO.

13. I can't stand that low life..I worked on the Kerry campaign and I worked the vip sections in charge
of security when Kerry came into town or Edwards, which was alot..

At one event we had children of some of the volunteers that wanted to meet Senator Nelson..I asked him nicely if he would greet the children..he came unglued..and was so rotten nasty.//totally out of line ..in front of the children...I said...forget about it....but I added ..he would never get another dime from me or not another days work from me..
and I meant it..and I still do..if he was the last dem senator I wouldn't lift a finger for him and he will never ever get a dime from me.

He made me sick to my stomach!

14. every Dem who votes against the public option has two choices
1) become a Republican
2) be prepared for a humiliating defeat in the next Democratic primaries to a more progressive candidate.

Never underestimate what a bunch of angry progressives can do.

15. Bill Nelson will get another damn call from me tomorrow.
I will not be nice about my comments. Polite to his office staff, but not nice in what I want them to convey to Mr. Nelson. I will no longer honor him with the title of Senator - he has given up that respect.

24. Can't get 60 votes to avoid a filibuster? So what's the problem? Let them filibuster!
Edited on Tue Sep-01-09 08:59 AM by Better Believe It
Hell, dare them to filibuster against a strong public option bill!

And make them filibuster on the Senate floor. The Democrats make Senate rules and can force them to take the floor.

All real filibusters end.

It's either make the Republicans filibuster or surrender once again to Republican demands.
