The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program to reduce benefits - is low on money
The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, is reducing its assistance by six weeks this winter and some of the state-funded agencies which would usually come to the rescue are broke because of a lack at state budget.

Volunteers at the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network food and clothing pantry near Brodheadsville said they have seen more people than ever this year looking for help. "Because of the economy we have seen a drastic in the number of people coming to us for assistance," said director Eloise Laubach.

Including families who can't afford to pay their heating bills. Many turn to LIHEAP, a federally-funded program that helps people foot their heating bill. However the program has just announced it is reducing benefits this year by six weeks as well as cutting back on the families who can qualify.

"By them reducing the levels that means more people will be calling us," said Ruth Piancone, Transportation/Housing Coordinator for Pocono Healthy Communities Alliance.

1. Can't we pretend they are a bank
and give them a bailout? What a crock of shit.

2. I think it will be a hard winter too.
I live in a suburb of Houston, I keep an eye on my neighbors when they cut down or do a serious prunning of their trees. I have about a cord of wood to help save on heat this winter.
