Anyone watching Anthony Weiner on MSNBC?
They're talking healthcare with Maria Bartaromo and I don't know how he doesn't smack her! He was just talking about how Medicare provides quality care and she said "Then how come you don't have it?" and he replied "BECAUSE I'M NOT 65"!!!!!!!!!

She's despicable! Segment's being extended. Hope he smacks her down again.

2. This May be a Bad Assumption
but do the insurance companies and GOP hire air-heads because they know these types will lie without being embarrassed, basically because they are too stupid to realize they know nothing?

3. I think you're right on the money
As I recall, students of broadcast journalism were barely above football scholarship students as far as brain power went.

Broadcast journalism was all about presentation, not content. A successful graduate could generate hours of bafflegab during a disaster like a hurricane but don't expect them to know any background on either the area or the nature of the disaster.

(I realize there are exceptions to every rule, so don't bother to flame if you consider yourself to be one.)

10. I double-majored in Broadcast Journalism w/ a emphasis in Political Reporting and History.
Edited on Tue Sep-01-09 10:42 AM by Kerrytravelers
I received my BA in Broadcast Journalism from USC. I spent my time researching and doing documentary-style reporting in South Central LA, East LA and the local schools. I then went on to earn a Master's in Professional Writing from USC with a dual emphasis in fiction and non-fiction.

Not all Broadcast Journalists are vacant headed morans.

But I can't let something like that hang out there without at least defending myself a little bit.

"because they must be smart."

21. They hire one of the Bush twins to speak on "educational issues" on the Today Show.
When I was in J-School, we were basically told that if we really wanted to report, we'd either go abroad, or work for the foreign press here. That is where all the educated journalists are going.

25. Yes. Or at really minor papers. But the WP just hires Ivy Leaguers straight out of college.
That's how David Remnick, Dana Milbank, etc. started at the Post. Runny-nosed rich kids.

4. And what, pray tell, does Maria Bartaromo have to do with
health care reform, besides sounding like she opposes it?

I want just ONE person to put some experts on to debunk rumors out there without the hysteria.

It's getting old.

9. How can she be a major personality on their FINANCIAL network
and not understand how spreading risk & increasing people in the pool will lower costs?? Weiner just gave her the example of Wal-Mart selling prescriptions for $4 and that they do it by their buying power. She had no reply other than to say that she doesn't believe rates will go down.

18. She has a nice body and a cute hair style...
...and after all, we are aiming at most at an 8th grade level for the viewing audience.

That pretty much explains to me why she has her job.

That was in response to why aren't Dems more agressive in the health care debate.

Can we clone this guy?!

Made me laugh out loud! And did you see the look he got from Carlos Watkins? He looked like he couldn't believe he said that and wanted to laugh so badly. I wish we could clone him.

12. She's such a dumb bitch! I only remotely liked her when she interviewed Prince, but...
she was dumb then. She claimed to be a big fan and didn't know any of the words to his songs.

Dumb ass!!

14. I should have paid more attention when he was on
I just caught the tail end of his segment. Bartaromo was getting quite upset with Weiner's unflappable stance. She ended up yelling: "I'm standing up for the investor!"

Yes, Maria. That much is obvious.

24. That's what I wish the Democrats would hammer into each discussion
My response to people who are against reform is "Why do you support the insurance companies and their multimillionaire CEO's who deny care to people every single day?"

I wish they'd turn the tables...you're either with US or you're with the rich & privileged.

Oh, yippee! Dr. Nancy's going to get her flu shot today, live on TV. I'll FINALLY be able to sleep at night!

15. Corporate Maria also tried to give Weiner a hard time about advocating for health care
He told her he represents the people - she responded that she represents the investors. Greed is all she is about. Shouldn't she do full disclosure on how much insurance stock she owns and how much money she gets from the industry?

26. I'm unemployed
No insurance because I couldn't afford the $821/month for COBRA. I'm enjoying a gourmet lunch of Campbell's Tomato Soup and store brand noodles, which were still $1/box! I was torn between the tomato and the ramen noodles. Wonder what Maria's having for lunch today??
