If you are close to a fire, but not too close & you want to help |
|
A few years back we had a big fire near us, and my neighbor & I went to the store and bought 8 loaves of bread, about 8 gallon jugs of chilled OJ, peanut butter & jelly and some bags of Mother's Cookies and made a bunch of sandwiches..we put them all back in the bread wrappers to keep them clean, and put the jugs of OJ into a cheap clothes basket , with the sandwiches & cookies on top
then we went to the perimeter where the fire crews rest up and of course the fireman there told us we had to turn around.. ... We did, but only after we gave them the goodies.. He was very happy to have us "visit".. Luckily the fire only lasted a few days, but we did that for 2 of them..

I volunteered at a relief center back in 2003....those are good places to bring food to, as well.

Another way to help. Foster pets of those who have been evacuated.

I'm too far south for the drive, but I'll keep this in mind as an addition to fostering displaced animals. Because, unfortunately, another fire is always around the corner. I'm worried because it's not yet fire season. My neighbor flicked a cigarette butt onto the greenbelt which backs up to a wilderness area, and I went ballistic. We don't need anymore fires!
