What do you think of Time Magazine's cover pic of Ted Kennedy?

Unflattering? Flattering? Like a mug shot? Powerful? Wistful? Melancholy?

34. But that's what he looked like -
you didn't see him, except in news clips, and he was an old man with a terminal illness when this portrait was taken, so why shouldn't his life show in his face?

It does look like him. It's a wonderfully true and honest portrait.

Not every picture has to be all smiles. Life's not like that. I think Time's done a great thing with this cover............................

51. Within the past year, is my guess -
He was, after all, seventy-seven years old.

We all have our Kennedy pictures in our heads, and they're a whole lot better than reality.

I don't like remembering Bobby lying on the Ambassador's floor, his head in a pool of blood, and I don't like remembering Jack's head snapping back and forth in that convertible, but there they are.

So I choose to remember the pretty pictures, the laughing, happy ones.

But life is not always laughing and happy, and no one knew that better than Senator Kennedy.........................

49. I saw him, and this is not what I saw...
it is not what I see. Smiles or not.

News photos, news clips, CSPAN... much less produced than a front cover for a magazine.

The memorable image that I have of Senator Kennedy is of him coming out of the hospital giving the thumbs up. A real moment. A moment where one of my heroes wobbled out with the weight of the world on his shoulders. A moment where he gave more to others than he did of himself. That was real, that was life... that was true and honest.

Time... not so much.

...it fails to capture the man's sparkle and vitality. And the way it is cropped, so that it doesn't go all the way out to his shoulders, has the effect of making his head look huge, which is really weird looking.

Edited on Tue Sep-01-09 10:47 PM by Octafish
They also lie frequently about the Bushes, Harrimans, Dulleses, and so on.

Central to TIME's biggest lie is how President Kennedy got in the way of those interested in continuing America's big business of war.
