TOM RIDGE IS AN ASSHOLE MOTHERFUCKER BULLSHITTER
Edited on Tue Sep-01-09 11:14 PM by Hissyspit
I don't know his motivations for spewing the GOP propaganda talking points shit, the "faulty intelligence was responsible for Iraq fiasco" crap, and his backpedaling, but I don't really give a crap.

RIDGE said on Rachel Maddow's show that he thinks "it is a pretty radical conclusion to suggest that men and women entrusted with the safety of this country would predicate a decision upon any other basis other than to keep America safe. Later on it may have proven that some of the information was inaccurate, but there were plenty of reasons to go into Iraq at the time - the foremost were the weapons of mass destruction, that obviously proven to be faulty."

IT'S NOT A RADICAL CONCLUSION, YOU WEASEL SHIT... IT'S WHAT FUCKING HAPPENED!

That's why Rachel subtly but clearly was getting pissed at you.

'You should be ashamed to suggest my bullshit is not true,' he argues to Rachel. ARGUMENT THROUGH APPEAL TO SHAME. WHAT CRAP! 'Men and women in power wouldn't base their actions on anything other than the purist of motives.' WHAT ARE YOU? SEVEN FUCKING YEARS OLD?? NO, YOU'RE NOT. YOU KNOW THIS IS CRAP!

Then he says that he and Rachel obviously disagree and it is not his opinion. Except that opinions are nothing without FACTS TO BACK THEM UP AND RACHEL HAS FACTS TO BACK HER UP!

FACTS!

- The Paul O'Neill Book: "The war in Iraq was planned from the first National Security Council meeting."

- The articles again and again in the newspaper, buried in the back, of course, that CIA and other current and former intelligence did not believe the bullshit. (i.e. see New York Times, Sep. 28, 2008)

- Scott Ritter, weapons inspector.

- William Rivers Pitt's Book.

- The weapons inspectors, forced out, not by Saddam, but by PRESIDENT SOCIOPATH!

- "Reasons Not To Invade Iraq' by George W. Bush Sr.

- The RIDICULOUS evidence presented by Colin Powell at the U.N. I was embarassed to hear adult Americans taking it seriously when it would have been laughed out of any U.S. court as the weakest of circumstantial!

- The ratfuckers who were behind all this... Cheney, Rove, et al.

- The largest anti-war protests in the HISTORY OF THE HUMAN RACE.

- The Downing Street Memos.

- The scholars who said the war was illegal.

- The persons who resigned their positions rather than partake in the lie.

- The manipulation of 9/11; documented over and over in Condi and Dick and Georgie and Donald's own words!

- And this, too: JUST PLAIN FUCKING COMMON SENSE. "IRAQ??? WTF???"

FACTS, not opinion

PEOPLE ORPHANED, KILLED, TORTURED, REPUTATIONS DESTROYED, TREASONS COMMITTED, LIVES RUINED, AND YOU THINK IT'S AN HONEST DIFFERENCE IN OPINION??

YOU COULDN'T LOOK RACHEL IN THE EYE YOU WEASEL MOTHERFUCKER

God, these monsters make me :puke:

When do I get to not have reason to post rants like this? When is there accountability? When does Cheney go to jail?

3. Why?
Edited on Tue Sep-01-09 10:37 PM by Hissyspit
They knew what the fuck they were talking about.

In June, 1999, Ritter responded to an interviewer, saying: "When you ask the question, 'Does Iraq possess militarily viable biological or chemical weapons?' the answer is no! It is a resounding NO. Can Iraq produce today chemical weapons on a meaningful scale? No! Can Iraq produce biological weapons on a meaningful scale? No! Ballistic missiles? No! It is 'no' across the board. So from a qualitative standpoint, Iraq has been disarmed. Iraq today possesses no meaningful weapons of mass destruction capability.

62. It's standard Republican CYA bipartisanship
The only time these days when republicans get "bipartisan" is when something they've pushed causes a huge mess. Then they'll trot out any Democrats who went along with them (whether voluntarily or frog-marched) and claim it was a "bipartisan concensus", so it's just "playing politics" to hold one side more responsible.

11. One of the things that slays me
is to hear Ridge and other repubs blame their failures on "the federal government". This is a meme that I haven't yet hear any progressives take on. No, rainbow ridge, the war on Iraq and the response to Katrina was not a failure of the federal government, it was a failure of the republicans in charge of the federal government.

This repub meme does not only shift responsibility from those at the helm, but it is also designed as red meat for them to say, "see, federal government is bad".

This meme needs to be taken on every time it is uttered/spewed/shat.

50. I didn't see it
I believe Maddow asked some tough questions and really pressed him about what he knew and the motivations of pushing the Iraq War. I liked how she rebutted him after he said democracy in Iraq is a good thing for all of us and then she mentioned something along the lines of selling the idea of 4,000 americans and several billion dollars to "bring democracy in Iraq" wouldn't sell well with the American people and really went into a lot more then that. She didn't yell "Shut up!" and "Liar!" like Bill O'reilly does and gives her guest a chance to respond which is something I respect her for. I don't know where else he'd face these questions? MTP? CNN? Certainly not Fox News and the only times I recall Olbermann having guests that are republicans is when they agree with him.

24. The end justifies the means.
That is how these people think.
They can not comprehend that for a system like a democracy that the process matters.
That is why they feel they can lie or do anything to get what they want and it doesn't bother them.
They will die defending those lies or actions because maybe in the future things will be better, but none of us may be alive then to know it.
That thinking let them lie about Iraq and continue to do so much like they do about
health care and other things.

25. Tom Ridge is a perfect example of . . . . .
. . . . the kind of person studied in this article --

http://sociology.buffalo.edu/documents/hoffmansocinquiryarticle_000.pdf

"One of the most curious aspects of the 2004 presidential election was the strength
and resilience of the belief among many Americans that Saddam Hussein was linked to
the terrorist attacks of September 11. Scholars have suggested that this belief was the
result of a campaign of false information and innuendo from the Bush administration.
We call this the information environment explanation. Using a technique of “challenge
interviews” on a sample of voters who reported believing in a link between Saddam and
9/11, we propose instead a social psychological explanation for the belief in this link.
We identify a number of social psychological mechanisms voters use to maintain false
beliefs in the face of disconfirming information, and we show that for a subset of voters
the main reason to believe in the link was that it made sense of the administration’s decision
to go to war against Iraq. We call this inferred justification: for these voters, the fact of the
war led to a search for a justification for it, which led them to infer the existence of ties
between Iraq and 9/11.
"

* * * * *

These are people who cannot believe otherwise, for whatever reasons. There is no way to reason with them. They have been shown the facts and they still believe otherwise. They have been told there are no WMDs and never were; it doesn't matter to them. The truth doesn't matter. It is not, in fact, the truth.

And this is why the Dems need to stop courting these people. All the logic, all the facts, all the evidence in the world will NEVER CHANGE THEIR MINDS. They believe it -- whatever "it" is -- because they want to and no rational persuasion is going to change them.

It matters less WHY they are like this than simply that they are. They are never going to come to our side, so why should we waste any time on them?

30. He will make himself believe it.
It's not really so important whether these people truthly BELIEVE what they say they believe. It's that they will defend their "belief" and they will act upon that belief, to the point that there's really no difference.

it is in what they perceive as their own best interest to believe, and even if that motivation is entirely subconscious, they will still act on it.

Ridge's survival depends on his expressing his belief in the truth as the booshies created it. He will do/say whatever he needs to survive.

flunky to a charismatic leader in the service of evil.

Or maybe Heydrich, Eichmann's boss at, and head of, the RSHA (an analogue to the Bush-era DHS).

You should watch and listen to Ridge and his ilk as an entomologist studies an exotic insect. (No offense to insects.) You are in the presence of what Arendt called "the banality of evil."

41. Loved the interview because it was so obvious that he'd been prepped and coached to babble thusly.
I speculated that they'd used that power drill near his head as part of his interview prep. To be sure he contradicted any potentially critical comments about the Bushrove Cheneyrummy Gang.

Good on Rachel for remaining cool and drawing out his lies for all to see.

It sure was an aw shucks and golly gee pile of dung from Ridge. Guess he'd sold enough books already with the teasing at the truth therein. Done those interview rounds. And now he could do the one to prove to the Cheeeneeey leave-behinds that he'd tow the line henceforth.

Maybe he has to take lots of small planes in his work.

Bush official, in book, tells of pressure on ’04 vote
By Peter Baker, New York Times, August 21, 2009

Tom Ridge, the first secretary of homeland security, asserts in a new book that he was pressured by top advisers to President George W. Bush to raise the national threat level just before the 2004 election in what he suspected was an effort to influence the vote ...

Bush populated nearly all the senior offices and advisory positions of his administration with people who were already on record as advocating removing Saddam by force (the PNAC gallery), years before Bush even took office.

So it's not exactly a "radical conclusion" that these people, once in power, would continue to advocate this course of action "for the good of the country".

It's like Republicans and tax cuts: the reason they give to justify it always shifts, because the reasons they give aren't their real reasons for wanting it. They want it, and they say anything to cajole everyone else into going along with them.

because those words are so harmless in the face of a war that killed perhaps 100,000 Iraqis and 4,000 Americans --a war that didn't need to be fought.

if such a thing doesn't cause one to curse everyone who caused the war --then maybe they just don't fully appreciate how awful it is.

Rachel got to him so quick he started babbling and backsliding and nose twitching (believe they call it a nervous twitch?) much sooner than I thought. He was totally unable to explain the reasoning for going into Iraq. He fell back on the old bushie staples, Saddam was bad, had wmd's, and that this area of the globe needed a democracy to use as an example. AND, the whole bs flew with the msm....

Now they have their beasts out there telling people to slash their wrists or do whatever to "take their country back", and for sure don't let those dems take their health care??? None of it makes sense and the same ol' repub "believers" are breathing real hard now. Oh how they love to hate.

This doesn't make us look "hip" or "cool".

162. In that regard DU is like the Catholic Church,
threatening hundreds of Galileos with banishment for insisting that the earth revolves around the sun.

Shameful, laughable, ultimately untenable as a position, but there it is.

111. Seeing Ridge on his media book selling tour has been surreal
He is essentially arguing with his own book a book that we are supposed to believe he wrote. He was flat out denying things in the book and Rachel pointed it out to him. Then he goes off on the neo-con shithouse meme of "faulty intel" and "bringing democracy to the Middle East". And we have been led to believe by the MSM that Ridge is a moderate.

Chris Matthews is like a schoolgirl when he goes on Hardball. He was a middle level manager to the most inept and corrupt administration in modern history and more than likely in American history. He has come to some realization that the truth as written in his book is no longer serving the status quo and now after the release of the book is reverting back to neo-con spitballs.

122. Tom Ridge is nothing more than a lying little coward
with the blood of hundred's of thousands of Iraqi's and over 4,000 American soldiers. You and the rest of the Bush cabal will get what you deserve. The blood on your hands will never wash out, and he knows this every time he looks in the mirror, that is why he looks so horrible. The monster of corrupt power and guilt will destroy you, hopefully sooner than later.

before this interview that truly resonated with me, despite its' impracticality. She'd like to see a law passed that before any publicly elected official - past and present - speaks to an American audience, they should be put under oath. The silence would be deafening.

137. TOOOOOOOO true, hon!
President Sociopath and his gang of social deviants would NEVER do ANYTHING like that...
unless they had the very BEST of intentions!

Chucky-Dolls

Serial killers. Delusional, maniacal, cannabalistic madmen, the whole lot of 'em.

John Ashcroft is a peurile sexless scowling High Inquisitor. Donald Rumsfeld is a soulless golem. Dick Cheney is the very image of ol' Man Potter from "It's a Wonderful Life", radiating his inner illness and ugliness like a blinding cloak of many unhappy colors... and our 'president' is a nightmare Chucky-doll, crass and ignorant and utterly conscienceless, the perfect evil puppet to end all evil puppets...

I must say, both as a horror writer/artist and lifelong fan, these guys are without question scarier than the most frightening horror movie or work of dark fiction you could possibly name.

The damage already done is simply staggering, not just to our people and environment, but to every basic social concept and construct that makes up any great society.

138. Tom Ridge likely chose his words carefully...

although he would never admit it, there may be those who are so deluded that even if 9-11 was allowed to happen so that we could start wars in the Middle East, they may justify the belief that it all happened in order to keep the flow of foreign oil secure, and thus the sacrifice of thousands of soldiers and American civilians, not to mention the 100,000s of Iraqi lives, was all for the ultimate benefit of 'American safety'.

We should prosecute those motherfuckers for the war - and for the torture they ordered on Iraqi citizens.

159. Let's look at what he actually said.
"it is a pretty radical conclusion to suggest that men and women entrusted with the safety of this country would predicate a decision upon any other basis other than to keep America safe." First of all what else can we conclude? These people "entrusted with the safety of this country" did in fact make decisions that not only didn't make this country safer, but in fact put citizens of this country in jeopardy. Enough jeopardy that thousands of them died. You can not produce any evidence that these people used for justification that wasn't at the time debunked.

"Later on it may have proven that some of the information was inaccurate," I do love this argument. So what you are saying is that those people entrusted with the safety of this country didn't recognize at the timed that the "information" was inaccurate? When at the time, there were many, many that were telling them it was inaccurate. I would love you, sir, to tell us what information these people had that fooled them so greatly. Dare tell us.

"but there were plenty of reasons to go into Iraq at the time - the foremost were the weapons of mass destruction, that obviously proven to be faulty." This has to be the stoopidist explanation I have heard. There were lots of reasons. OK, name a few. Ok, name one. Oh, yes there was that pesky WMD reason that turned out later to be faulty. So let me ask you this. If someone were to make a decision to invade a country, kill over a million innocent civilians and be responsible for the deaths of over 4,000 Americans based on erroneous data, wouldn't you hold them responsible?

Here's the deal. You can fool some people but I bet you know that you can not fool your own God. I think, sir you will rot in hell.
