1. There was a long thread a week or two ago.
A lot of DUers make use of the border for all aspects of health care.

2. I've used a Mexican dentist
and it was every bit as good as US based dentistry and about 1/3 to 1/2 the cost.

I had a filling replaced, a cleaning, and another recent filling adjusted (ground down).

All for about $150.

Office was modern and well equipped, staff all spoke English.

This was in the border town of Naco.

3. I heard that 23 million Americans every year are going elsewhere for health care!!
And it's being paid for by Medicare or their insurance companies!!!

16. I think only Repug idiots are doing that -- though aside from Olberman and Rachel
I'm not seeing an acknowledgment of that --

at least not in articles on the internet!

4. I had a bad tooth
That the dentist said needed removal, an implant and a crown. I'm not certain but I think the estimate was many thousands. Went to TJ and saw a dentist who cleaned my teeth, took full mouth x-rays, got a gum specialist to take a look at my mouth, fixed the offending tooth (took an hour), did another filling. Total cost was under 200. And I still have the tooth.

5. Where are you planning to go? Have you chosen a border town?
I really only know very much about Algodones which is the border town by Yuma Az. Generally though, the work is very good and will cost you 25-30% of US prices.

9. Hubbie had 6 implants done in TJ last year.
Absolutely superb care and results and one third any price we could get in the states. It's my turn next year!! We'd never get our teeth done anywhere else now.

17. Interesting . .
From what I've heard of implants it didn't seem that easy!!

How long was the recovery and did they do 6 at one time????

20. All 6 at once, but it is a multi-step process
took about 6 months start to finish - You have to wait for the titanium 'posts' to become 'one' with your gums, before the 'teeth' part can be put on.
Hubby's were all 'back' teeth.

Would have thought they'd be able to clone teeth by now --

if they weren't so preoccupied with making weapons!!

24. A neighbor makes dental products.
dentures, crowns etc. He said about 70% of dentures NOT made within 24 hrs are sent to China or Mexico - mostly china because they are cheaper (and of cheap quality) Mexican dental makers do good quality work and charge US dentist more for it.

22. You can get good medical care in Mexico...
...but it's cash up front, even in the Emergency Room, at least for Americans.
