I'd like some opinions: why are muslims more vocal and militant
in some of the European countries than here in the U.S.?

5. Uh-huh. After seeing what this nation did to Native Americans, African slaves, and every
other non-white minority group, they know what is in store if they "act up."

See, brutality and savagery does work - for some.

2. I have a theory that in general we seem quiter because of our land mass
I mean that we are far more spread out and therefore our voices seem not as loud.

8. Yeah, if you live here long enough, and adopt our key values, you and your children will BE American
No matter how long an immigrant may live in Germany, France, or Japan, they will never be German, French, or Japanese. It has to do with the fact (though the right wingers would deny it), we are a country (idealy) founded on ideas, not on ethnic heritage.

9. Could it be, also, that muslims are not concentrated in one area of the country, but all over?

11. There ARE high concentrations
but our populations are mostly Middle Class and professional... in Europe it is blue collar and not accepted.

Sociologists looking at this have noticed this.

14. Yep. European Muslims are our Mexicans.
But even given that, the immigrants from south of OUR borders get more respect from the general populace than the immigrants from the south of THEIR borders.

7. Why are muslims in India less militant and anti-western than some other nations
I really don't know. Could be that integration is better.

12. I have read that Muslims in Europe are generally much poorer than those
who emigrate to the US.

Muslims who come to America are generally more wealthy and have better educations.

Such a group would tend to be less violent and radical.

It makes sense to me that it is just easier and cheaper to move from the Middle East to Europe, as opposed to across the ocean to America.

13. Wealth or lack of is not an indicator
remember, many of the recruits to Al Qaida are middle and upper class. For god sakes, Al Zahairi is a doctor and OBL went to Oxford...

And many bombers are middle and upper class as well as jihadis. It is part of the equation, but not all of it
