Don't make the barely acceptable the enemy of the totally shitty but able to say we passed something
When I'm told not to make the perfect the enemy of the good, I initally believed it. That's why I was willing to compromise ona strong public option as the good because a single payer system is the perfect. Then, they weakened the public opption on us with it not even kicking in for a couple of years, making HR3200 barely acceptbale.

Now I'm being expected to give up on a public option altogether just so a bill can be passed and victory can be declared.

So in essence, we're being asked to not make the barely acceptable the enemy of the totally shitty but able to say we passed something so we can declare victory.

Fuck that shit. No public option, no deal.

1. That's what the Congressional Progressive Caucus said.
And all of us Liberals should unite behind.

NO PUBLIC OPTION, NO DEAL!

any bill without a public option dies in the House.

11. Several things could happen here if there is no public option
#1 Liberal/Progressive funds will dry up
#2 Another party will emerge
#3 Republicans will have sweeping victories in 2012
#4 Riots

12. No. More. Excuses.
The Democrats OWN The White House.
The Democrats OWN The Senate.
The Democrats OWN The House.
The Democrats OWN overwhelming popular support for REAL reform including a "Public Option".

No. More. Excuses.
The Democrats either PRODUCE,
or admit that Nader was right.

A watered down provision that the Corporate Dems call a "Public Option" that isn't available to "The Public" (HR 3200) is NOT good enough.

Public Option = Government Administered Publicly Owned alternative ("Like Medicare") that is available to everyone who wants it.

14. I started supporting Obama the day he announced in 2007
If he doesn't come out strongly for a public option on the 9th, that's the day I stop supporting him.

15. A strong public option *is* the compromise.
Single Payer would be the ideal.

And we need to start demanding that Medicare be the public option. Dean's pushing it, and others are as well... we need to get behind them.

19. A Medicare Buy-in plan would get through reconciliation easily
Medicare already exists and the entire program would be budgetary in nature.

They wouldn't have to do anything else, either.

16. Great point!
Just the other day I realized how irritated I've been about everyone hanging to that old saw for dear life, as though we are dealing with "perfect" vs. "good".

Yeah, right.

27. What if "something" improves things for some people?
It's not as if this is the only chance for any movement on the issue. There's no statute of limitations in Congress that it can't be brought up again.
