The mother was taken to PRMC Aug. 27 after giving birth to a child at a Powderly residence where she was reportedly living with her grandparents. Law enforcement officials were informed of the possibility of a second, earlier child when hospital personnel found evidence of a second birth.

When questioned, the mother told law enforcement officials she had wrapped the first child in a trash bag and placed it in a trash can, sparking a several-hour long search by law enforcement, paramedics and volunteer firefighters in and around the residence.

The newborn infant was discovered dead in the mother’s room at the Powderly residence about 10 a.m. that morning, said Lamar County Sheriff B.J. McCoy.
