8. Not unusual with pyrocumulus clouds.

The big, white, fluffy clouds at the top of the smoke plumes are pyrocumulus clouds formed by the intense heat releasing water vapor from the plants and ground. They often result in rain that can extinguis the fires that created them, but in SoCal there is not enough moisture for that kind of neat-o activity. Lightning is always a danger with them.

When I moved out here in '87, there were not these many fires. How nice it would be to drive up to Monterrey this long weekend.
