For fNord: "Rarely do members of one family grow up under the same roof."
The bond that links your true family is not one of blood, but of respect and joy in each other's life. Rarely do members of one family grow up under the same roof."
— Richard Bach (One)

I just wanted to make sure he saw this. Flame away.

1. That's "One" of those slightly weepy feelgood aphorisms that . . .
Hardly means anything at all. Nice, but way too kumbayesque for any serious debate. Or serious snarkiness, for that matter.

2. Interesting -
you have no idea what the backstory is here regarding DU fNord, yet you felt compelled to contribute your pallid, trite observations.

Ah, obliviousness coupled with even more ignorance, combined with a dash of pseudo-intellectualism, and look who shows up!

3. Don't actually care about fNord and I make whatever contribution I feel like making.
Edited on Wed Sep-02-09 09:52 PM by MrModerate
If you have a problem with that then you are definitely in the wrong place.

Pallid and trite, eh? I'm so happy for you that MS Word ships with a thesaurus. You might want to check on the actual definitions though.

On edit: Curiosity got the better of me and I looked up fNord and read about his/her crisis of the heart. So now I care about him/her a bit more than I did before. Happens when you learn something personal.

But doesn't change a thing about my original post. Bach = prattle, and while the quote may have been of some comfort to fNord in his/her current situation, it could as easily been useless or obnoxious.

And who died and made you god of comment correctness?

7. Well, you attempted to correct
your failing, and that's a good thing. Compassion is in short supply in this world.

But, you might have done that before you decided to be the self-appointed arbiter of quotes, and the idea that you think your opinion is so vaunted that it needed to be posted here - where it was, in fact, a mean thing to do, diminishing whatever the OP wanted to offer to fNord - is laughable.

Go look up "vaunted," and, while you're at it, pallid and trite. While you need a thesaurus to get by, others don't, and I'm happy to be one of them. Pallid and trite, and now continuing. Interesting.

So you don't care for Bach? Well, that certainly has contributed to lending fNord a hand....................

9. Well I don't aspire to the same standards that you (apparently) do. For me . . .
a comment doesn't need to be "vaunted" to justify posting here. I'm happy for a simple "adequate."

Actually, I suspected you didn't use a thesaurus. I was merely trying to be insulting, given your over-the-top response to my observation.

I'm also comfortable with the idea that you don't use a dictionary, either.

On the other hand, I'm not aware of any posting rule, posting practice, posting tendency, or posting etiquette that prevents me from pointing out that -- in my adequate opinion -- a quote strikes me as mass market weak sauce. Your pissiness has not changed my opinion except to the extent that I have another data point: at least one additional person who *doesn't* think Bach is prattle is also something of a twit.

These observations build up over time.

5. Oh goody! An actual insult from an anonymous poster. That's never happened before.
And it's not much of an insult. Oh well.

8. That's about all that poster deserves -
I threw some good words at him, but they failed because he didn't know what they meant.

Good for you, good for trying to give a fellow DUer a cheer-up.

22. Another DU friend said the same thing
earlier today.

Without GWB to kick around, some people are still rabid, got lots of issues to deal with, and they're acting out, biting everyone.

It blows.

But, we have Ignore................... :hi:

24. Sorry, lildreamer, for taking your kind and thoughtful thread off-track
I guess that I just got sick and tired of the nastiness (of which I contributed to).

I read fNord's OP, and I share your thoughts.

I am sure he appreciates your kind words.
