It's interesting that this happened so quickly, so completely.

I can still remember when I first heard about how the Congress went after anyone they thought was a red or a Commie or a Traitor.

Woody Allen was in a movie called the Front that really tore my heart apart when I watched it. All the ruined careers that were ruined just because the Republican Party (there's a surprise) gined up a whole lot of scare tactics that Hollywood was over run with commies and that we had to stop the Red Menace...

You should watch this special.

Seriously.

I don't think they will get into the John Wayne Gary Cooper feud over High Noon. But guess who was on the side of right and who was on the side wrong. Even though Cooper was a staunch Republican, he was still able to recognize that restricting the Rights of people to have contrary thoughts went against the true meaning of what it means to be an American...

Now we have shallow, shadowy men who claim it is their duty to torture in the name of protecting freedom. Where is the republican's Gary Cooper?

5. It's a sad watch what Trumbo went through. I remember when he had to get friends

to produce his stuff without giving him credit. It's well worth the watch. Many of our younger DU'ers need to see this...to understand why some of us here are so anxious to support free speech and hold politicians accountable.

6. Another artist who was a victim of the Red Scare was Zero Mostel.

He chose to stay at home and paint until it was over as he had no work. He played Hecky in The Front. I hope he believed the role gave him the last word in the matter.

7. Just finished watching this...

I give it my highest recommendation...

Superbly shot, with current footage and modern actors playing Trumbo over the decades...

And with actual footage of him and his family and all the people of the time of the blacklisting...

Perfectly put together! Very moving and haunting and sad...

Although I knew the basic story, I was not aware of the details.
