Student shot on Northern California college campus

Sep 2nd, 2009 | SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- A campus shooting has a Northern California college on lockdown as police search for a suspect who wounded a student.

The bleeding student came into the learning center at Skyline Community College in San Bruno about 1 p.m., said Leslie Shelton, director of the center.

"We were alerted there was an active shooter," Shelton said.

The student had been shot in the buttocks, said Barbara Christensen, San Mateo Community College District director of community and government relations.

The student was taken to the health center as staff called 911.

SWAT officers were searching buildings as the campus was evacuated, The Skyline View, the school newspaper, said on its Web site.

It's at the top of a hill, surrounded by woods and middle-class homes. And although the San Francisco jail is close by, I am positive that that has nothing to do with this. This is a very safe campus generally - whatever fight these men had between themselves was brought onto campus.
