Conservatives Are Ready for the Stevens Retirement
By David Weigel 9/3/09 10:18 AM

Keying off the rumors that Associate Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens may retire, I asked Curt Levey of the Committee for Justice, the group that marshalled a lot of opposition to the nomination Sonia Sotomayor, if he was ready to get the band back together. His response:

I look forward to a Supreme Court confirmation battle on the eve of the 2010 elections.

1. Surprise, surprise!
I wish it was somebody else likely to retire, but unfortunately retiring in the near future makes perfect sense for Stevens. Saw some quite recent shots of him yesterday though, and he looked extremely well for his age.
