Would Someone PLEASE Tell Me What All This Drama About the TRIGGER is Coming From?
I've seen OP after OP with no damned link or reference to where this "Trigger to set off the Public Option" is all about.
Is it Politico?

Drudge?

Huffpost?

WTF?

:wtf:

I'm betting it's more sky is falling nonsense.

2. Did you try a search?
It was in the news yesterday when Snowe said she might / would support a public option with a trigger.

7. Thanks. That's it, someone said they might support something like a trigger?
I figured it was something stupid like that.

5. It's just the latest in a long line of political
maneuvering designed to get people around here all worked up. And it works beautifully, all the usual suspects are up in arms, posting the same angry missives over something that doesn't exist yet because they're sure it's a conspiracy cooked up between Obama and the Republicans to make the insurance companies/big pharma rich while not changing anything.

6. Our lives and our health are not "drama"
If the Healthcare discussion is too much for you to deal with, I suggest you go to the Democratic Party Homepage where you will read nothing but the day's positive spin.

As for the trigger, if you were paying attention you would know what it was about and wouldn't be here chastising people.

The drama has been in the reactions to this article, this "conversation", one among many I'm sure.

Can't wait til this is over, the POTUS address and real bills hitting his desk.

18. Humorous, ain't it?
It's like a live action portrayal of "Little Bunny Foo Foo," where the Good Fairy tells Little Bunny Foo Foo that she's going to give him just one more chance to quit scooping up field mice and bopping them on the head. Congress is going to give the insurance companies just one more chance to quit fucking the citizenry in the ass, the dreaded Public Option might be considered in a year or two. Or never. Yeah, there's a threat with some teeth. "Oh, Congress - it's you! I was actually worried for a moment there."

19. It seems the media is now hyperventilating on rumor, the words of...
anonymouses, etc. The push is on, the President is engaged and the media know their time to defeat health care reform is drawing to a close so be prepared for ever increasing hyperbolic headlines.

It seems the only ones going on record supporting a trigger are, surprise, surprise, Baucus, Wyden, Carper. Here is what was actually said which negates what the media is pushing:

An official at the White House said he could not immediately confirm the report.

The proposal for a public plan with triggers has been welcomed among some moderate Democrats who want to forge a compromise on what is shaping up as the major fault line on health care reform. Sen. Max Baucus, one of the major players in the debate, has offered his support for this approach. As have Senators Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) and Thomas Carper (D-Del.).

That said, opposition to the proposal is fierce.

"I would have very strong reservations about , but I think we have to keep talking," said Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.), a powerful subcommittee chairwoman on the health committee.

Senator Chuck Schumer has insisted that, if anything, "reasonable criteria for triggering a public plan has already been met."

"Premiums are high," the New York Democrat said, "and either one or two insurers dominate the market. As we've seen with Medicare part D, a trigger option has so far meant no public option at all."

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/06/02/obama-senate-dems-conside_n_210390.html

The CNN article is appalling in it's total lack of factual information. The veracity of their story is based on 'two sources familiar with the negotiations', any bets that they are Baucus and another of the blue dogs?

20. Last night on one of the MSNBC shows, someone said it was a
trial balloon being floated and that there is a lot of posturing right now.

Could have been Lawrence O'Donnell, but I honestly don't remember who said it.

21. IMO, this is another "trial balloon> Throw an idea out there and let
everyone chew on it. The WH will watch reactions to determine
if it is worth pursuing.

It is not worth pursuing. If Dems cannot make decisions now
how in the heck will anyone have the nerve to pull the trigger
when there might be more Republicans.

If you get any Republicans on this, it is a temporary thing
so they(few Republicans can say I voted for HCR--I am not
an obstructionist.) Then believe you me when it is time
to pull the trigger, they will never never never vote against
Insurance Companies.

23. And the trigger has been blown off the hinges already.
We have a national health security emergency.

We gave private insurance companies so many chances already time and time again keeping things fair for them and what did we get?

47,000.000 uninsured, millions more bankrupt from medical bills

and what would you call the private insurers' good will this year when they poured millions into amoral right wing PR firms to stir up dangerous fear and hatred in vulnerable populations and got them to storm town hall meetings?

Isn't professional bullying like that enough of a trigger to get Senator Snowe to say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH?
