Is the American justice system a Christian one?
What would such a system be? And would that be a system worth idealizing?

1. Check out some of the laws and punishments in Colonial America
in the colonies, most of which were organized around a church of one description or another.

I sure as hell don't ever want us to go back to that.

Give me secular justice any day.

2. Yes, and the Feds are about to give us all a JUBILEE YEAR!
Which would be cool

3. Sure. I'm always up for a good stoning or crucifixion.
I'm perfectly fine leaving my potential fate in the hands of these people.

Who wouldn't be?

Now a question for the OP: What exactly are you aiming for with this thread?

7. Someone said on the Susan Atkins denied parole thread that
words to the effect, "you who want her blood to satisfy your lust for vengeance, tell me just how Christian America is".

I don't believe Christ ever promoted letting prisoners out of jail. He did say to render unto Caesar those things which are Caesar's.

9. He also preached forgiveness and turning the other cheek.
I'm not advocating turning the other cheek in the case of Atkins, nor necessarily letting her out of prison. But there has to be a happy medium between forgiving someone of their sins and turning the other check and letting 'em smack the crap out of you.

And while all that is interesting in theory, the intake and release of prisoners shouldn't be based on loftier theories when the harsh ugly reality of truth is far more urgent an issue.

4. I expect it would be like the system set up and run by the lawyers in Israel in Christ's day.

Not very pleasing to him at all, on the whole.

5. Two words by way of illustration: sharia law.
Different religions -- but the same principles where allowed to legally dominate people's lives.

8. Since There's No Justice For Gays, I'd Have to Say Yes.
