House libs to Obama: No public option, no support
http://theplumline.whorunsgov.com/president-obama/house-liberals-write-directly-to-obama-no-public-option-no-support/

<snip>
Should Obama jettison the public option, progressives will come under tremendous pressure to back the plan anyway. White House advisers will likely insist that liberals mustn’t deny the president a historic victory and enable a defeat that could cripple the first African-American presidency.

...DEVELOPING...

1. Mr. Obama, you work for me
I don't want to hear from you what I should and shouldn't do in order to forward your career. :grr:

2. They need to worry about the pressure from their constituents...
not the moneygrubbing power brokers in DC.

3. Yeah right. He only takes them for granted because he knows he can. So do they.

4. I love our new president and am very proud of him. However,
if he does not give us an affordable, fair, reasonable public option, he WILL lose my support on this one issue. And I WILL loudly demand that true liberal Democrats refuse to support it.

I have no interest whatsoever in making any more insurance companies rich off my premiums by denying me care, or anyone else.

5. Here's how I would respond if I was the White House
Edited on Thu Sep-03-09 04:43 PM by bluestateguy
I'd say to them, fine, we will continue to support a public option, but you (the liberals) will have to help us get the votes necessary to get to 218.

If we needed say 40 votes, then I'd say that the White House has to get 20, and the liberal Democrats have to get the other 20.

6. If he's not doing the job the people who voted for him
elected him to do, why should they care if his presidency is crippled? And what, pray tell, does race have to do with it? I didn't vote for him because he was African-American and I won't stick by him if he lets me down because he's African-American. That's an insult. He should know better.

7. Wouldn't it be sweet if they said: "No Single Payer, no support"
I know, I'm a dirty fucking hippie.

8. "White House advisers will likely insist that liberals
.....mustn’t deny the president a historic victory"

And Liberals insist that "White House advisers" (Rahm Emanuel) cordially go fuck themselves.

There is no victory, historic or otherwise, without - at the very least - a true public option.

11. Who claims that WH advisors will insist this?
That is their right not to vote for it - they are Congressmen are they not? If they want the all or nothing approach they can vote that way.
