6. I just worry that someone may get hurt or killed as the result of all this hatred.
Not just concerned about Obama, but also about our progressive senators and congress persons who don't have the security that the president has.

44. Oh, they will. They already do.
Unfortunately, there are a bunch of idiots out there who don't recognize an idiot when they see one.

I do think, however, that the GOP is devolving and will soon resemble a puddle of goo, weakly chirping "socialist!" "socialism!" as it oozes toward the sewer grate . . . I for one, can't wait.

8. I left years ago. Not primarily because of political/social issues . . .
But it's become increasingly hard to watch the news from the States and not despair. It really does seem as if the inmates have taken over the asylum.

I'll come back for visits, but I don't know if I could ever live in the US again.

37. And it gets increasingly surreal . . .
I can't imagine what it would be like to be in Sugar Land, TX or Frederick, MD (the last two cities I lived in before leaving this time). Especially because it was Tom DeLay's old district and I'm sure they had tebaggers running wild through the streets.

go even further, with things the way they are all over, and say I want to leave planet Earth.

I shudder to think that one day in the distant future people will be posting such things on the futuristic counterparts of our blogs and say I moving to Mars or I am so glad I moved to Europa( The moon, not the continent) and have their universal health care, since at the rate things are going here, by the time the US gets such care, we will probably have mastered space flight and successful space colonization.

52. Sometimes
There are tons of decent people, active progressives and people who are respectable here but lately I've been feeling like there is a huge amount of people who are perfectly happy pretending climate change doesn't exist, happy with our current health care, angry, ignorant and by and large on a different moral plane than I am. It almost feels like endorsing atheism in Saudi Arabia.

I don't know though. Cultures do change though. The US 100 years ago is not the US of today with regards to issues of race, religion or gender.

57. My "move to Europe" daydreams subsided last November. Now they're back.
In a big way.

I want to tell my children to make it their mission to get a toehold in Europe. They shouldn't have to worry that they will die or go bankrupt if they get sick or have an accident.

More and more it appears that this is no country for the civilized. This is a barbaric place, filled with fundies, teabaggers and gun freaks.
