Ok, I have two passions in life ........ well, I have several ...... but for the purposes of this post, I have two. lol They are politics and the reality TV show Big Brother. As you may or may not know, the concept of this show is to take a bunch of strangers, lock them in a house for two months and watch the mind games as they all try to kick one another out.
Each week, one of the contestants holds a power position called "Head of Household." One of the priviledges of being the Head of Household is that they get to write a blog to the shows fans .... this is a big deal because the houseguests are completely cut off from the outside world, cant talk to anyone except those in the house. This gives the HOH the opportunity to send shout outs to their loved ones, or let fans know what's on their mind as far as their strategy goes.
Anyway, Kevin, the last HOH is gay and he and his "boyf" as he calls him have been together for nine years. Now, keep in mind the demographic of this show. Most of the viewers are middle of the road, white bread Americans. Soccer moms and school girls. Not exactly on the leading edge of progressive thought.
Well, guess what sweet Kevin, a California resident, wrote in his blog this week?
One last tid-bit....Some of you may know that my 9 year anniversary with my Boyf (Alfonso) happened in this house. And I'm sure you saw how big of a goober I was when I cried and read his letter to me (LOVE YOU GUAPO!). I hope that one day I can experience the privilege of marriage with him and express my love to him through the union of marriage. I ask one tintsy tiny favor, next time a ballot or initiative or proposition comes through your state that would give myself or others like me a chance at experiencing what a majority of Americans already do, that you please consider allowing someone like me the honor of marriage.
Way to go Kevin! I thought my fellow DU'ers would get a kick out of this.
Kevin (right) and his "boyf" Alfonso ..... who had ..... at the time the show started, not come out to his family yet. ;)
