Every American child deserves to hear their President speak.
Anything less is child abuse. There, I said it.

Discuss.

1. I think child abuse is a little harsh
However, poor parenting certainly.

It's not fair for any kid who wants to learn.

17. Ah, I see you have mastered the art of calling someone a troll without actually having
to do it directly and thereby violating a rule!

Well done!

7. I heard H.W., Clinton, and W. through my school years.
In the classroom. My mom is a Democrat, but never had a problem with me hear the Bushes. My history teacher used the impeachment as an interactive tool, which my mom thought to be a great way to learn.

These parents who are throwing a fit have severe issues.

9. The kids may just want to learn, crazy concept huh?
It's awful that these parents are denying that. I hope these kids get pissed.

13. My mother never blocked my learning.
Edited on Thu Sep-03-09 10:58 PM by Creena
We'd read newspapers, books, and magazines together all the time. She tried to be as unbiased as possible while putting big concepts into terms a child could understand. She grew up in a rather conservative Catholic household, so maybe that's a reason.

I was allowed to make my own decisions and create my own views on life. I just happened to follow in my mom's footsteps. Although, I'm actually more progressive that she is, so it just shows how things changes through generations. Anyways, the fact that opportunity is being taken from these kids saddens me.

19. Americans have essentially lost appreciation of nuance and grey.
Nowadays, everything has to be all right or all wrong...all black or all white, all good or all bad. It's the upshot of a failed experiment to force everyone to be 100% equal in every aspect of human existence. In an attempt to leave no child behind, they all got left behind.

14. During the Bush years I would have
never let my child sit through a W. speech at school...never! My children go to school to learn!!
Which is precisely why I hope my child will be given the opportunity to hear President Obamas speech.

15. This isn't 1952. With youtube, children can hear anyone speak that they want -
- I honestly think that this being held at lunch time on what is the first day of school for many has made it difficult to work it into the daily schedule. I've heard that some schools have mentioned airing it at a later time. Children can also hear it online with their parents if they're not able to hear it at school.

But, child abuse???? Drama much?
