:sarcasm: of course. Thank goodness the state health dept. will be testing them for free. Otherwise, I'm sure a great many would never get the test. Lots of people in SC have no health insurance. I only hope if any students test positive and have no health insurance, they will get the needed treatment.



H.S. Students Possibly Exposed To TB

Greenville High Student Diagnosed With Infection


GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Students who attended Greenville High School last year may have been exposed to tuberculosis.


The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control said that a person who was at the high school has been diagnosed as having active pulmonary tuberculosis.

Students were potentially exposed January– May 2009, according to DHEC. A letter was mailed to students, their parents, and school employees who have been identified as being potentially exposed to TB.

Individuals to be tested for TB are those who had daily close contact over a period of weeks with the person who has active TB, during which they could have inhaled TB germs and become infected.

Individuals exposed to TB are required to have a TB skin test to see if they are infected. The TB skin test is very safe and usually causes only slight discomfort. Testing and other services for those identified at risk of exposure will be provided at the school at no charge by the Health Department.
