Town hall phone calls with Senator Mark Pryor last night.
Edited on Fri Sep-04-09 09:36 AM by sinkingfeeling
I sat in on two phone town halls with Sen. Pryor last night. Thank goodness each person is muted because I was screaming at several of my fellow Arkansans.

My first take is that those already getting their health care via government program, be it Medicare, Medicaid, VA Tricare, or S-Chip, are totally self-centered and couldn't give a damn about even their own children or grandkids. My comment that the Senator took was about the continuing rapid escalation in the cost of insurance, even employer based, that will soon drive all employers away from that benefit and make the cost of individual insurance out of reach for 90% of the population.

There were several who showed their addiction to Faux News with complaints about all those 'Czars' Obama has that have circumvented the confirmation process. Sen. Pryor pointed out that there were no positions of 'czar', just executive advisor's who don't require confirmation hearings.

One old man on Medicare told Pryor that the 'green czar' was a communist and that Obama should be impeached for having him. A quick search of Google this morning revealed the man was parroting Glenn Beck and Faux News about Van Jones, Special Adviser for Green Jobs.

Several others voiced their opposition to cap & trade, so we know all those TV ads are paying off big for Freedom Works and Energy Citizens.

Most comments were from those on Medicare who think paying $96 a month for virtually un-limited health care in their twilight years is unfair to them. My mother is 90 years old and I know how much Medicare and her supplemental insurance pay out on her behave. Yet she understands that the insurance costs to her grandson and great-granddaughter are huge chunks of his income (like 20%).

I also can't understand how some of these Senators and Reps can keep their cool and not starting asking, "And on what planet do you spend most of your time?"

He was in our offices yesterday and I was curious as to what was up.
