Mark Sanford, the gift that keeps on giving!
COLUMBIA -- Gov. Mark Sanford charged the state $131 for mileage to drive from his family's plantation in Beaufort County to Columbia for a news conference in December, according to travel vouchers obtained by a Columbia newspaper.

snip...

Federal tax laws don't allow someone to be reimbursed for traveling from home to work. But Sanford spokesman Ben Fox said Thursday the Lowcountry plantation is not Sanford's official home.

snip...Sanford takes frequent trips and often spends holidays at the home, called Coosaw Plantation. Earlier this week at an Orangeburg Kiwanis Club meeting, the governor suggested he may move there when he leaves office.

Soooo, let's see what we have here, kiddies:

The plantation might not be his "offical" home, but it is one of his homes.

In addition to violating state laws, it would appear that Sanford might be in violation of FEDERAL laws, too.

Looks like the marital split is becoming more serious. She's with the children at the home on Sullivan's Island. He's thinking about retiring to the plantation.

What more could the long-suffering Democrats in SC ask for? Oh, I know!

In addition to Sanford, Sens. Jim DeMint and Lindsay Graham are both members of the "C" St "Family", and

This guy is Sanford's local "spiritual advisor":http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=&imgrefurl=http://www.flickr.com/photos/capitolweekly/3727562046/&usg=__PT8qIvLR0xQhQtoZ68VQvTJ6lTg=&h=375&w=500&sz=56&hl=en&start=1&um=1&tbnid=QoHnK6eTqX-qRM:&tbnh=98&tbnw=130&prev=/images%253Fq%253Dcubby%252Bculbertson%2526hl%253Den%2526client%253Dfirefox-a%2526rls%253Dorg.mozilla:en-US <img src=

1. "the Lowcountry plantation is not Sanford's official home." So, he's not officially guilty of graft.
His intent was to defraud the state. His intent was to cover costs that are not covered. But, officially, he might get away with it.

So, it's all good.

2. As we used to say in the Navy, "It all counts for 20".
All of this stuff is building brick by brick, and the republicans are after him. Dems just have the concession stand for the fight.

They hated him before his little trip to Argentina, so this stuff is just icing on his impeachment cake. Now the state Chamber of Commerce is expressing "concern" that he is bad for business.

3. Talk about splitting hairs.
He brings the law down to truly minute definitions. He is the "Nitpicker in Chief." Can you imagine him as a parlimentarian in a meeting. You'd never get beyond the opening of a meeting, if that far.
