Today, the Conroe Courier is conducting an online poll regarding President Obama's speech next Tuesday to American students. The speech is about the importance of education. To date, only 2 of Montgomery County School Systems (Conroe & Magnolia) have agreed to broadcast his speech. The Courier internet site to vote is:

The point is that this is NOT a political endeavor on Obama's part. It is about facts. That wingnuts want to dictate what to allow children to see is understandable. No condoms, no tolerance ideas, etc. That you and I will allow this in school policy is not acceptable. I will not be an apologist for this stuff.

Here's what one of my TEXAS progressives wrote to our superintendent:

I am completely outraged that your administration will validate the irrational and ignorant members of our community by offering the opt-out from the President’s speech. This speech is not a partisan speech, as you must be aware. You are allowing an unhinged and desperate political group to disrupt a meaningful moment in our children’s education. Obama has to be one of our country’s greatest success stories and living proof that discipline and a good education can breakdown any barrier. Encouraging our children to do well in school is not socialism and you should have the backbone to say so. You are allowing politics to trump education and it has to stop, for the sake of our children and our community.
