Call Senator Olympia Snow and Tell Her........
Edited on Fri Sep-04-09 02:16 PM by bkkyosemite
Tell her that the majority of this country did not vote in a majority of demoncrats in the House, Senate and the Presidency to simply, when the time came for the big promised "Change We Can Believe In" for Healthcare, would accept a Republican's ideas on what we should do about a Public Option. We don't want her opinion that is what we voted for, no more Repubican opinions on major change! I just tried the line is busy but I will get through. I am disgusted.

1. Fax is best. Post-anthrax mail takes at least two weeks
...and you can forget the DC phone number, at least for today, it's been busy whenever. For mainers, an in-state constituency-service office would be a better choice. They're in Augusta, Auburn, Portland, Presque Isle, Biddeford and Bangor. Her Maine office calls in the past have screened aggressively to make sure they're talking to constituents, though.

(It's not ideology, it's geography. To a Mainer, the rest of the country is just Folks from Away, either Flatlanders or -- even worse -- Summer People.

Except for Massholes. And people from New Hampshire. They're The Cheap Bastards.)

2. I didn't get screened aggressively, but maybe they have caller ID and
noticed that I live in-state?

4. They'll ask, if you have outgoing caller ID blocked...
...or they did last year, when some unpleasantness required having it turned on ches nous.

3. I understand why you want to express your disgust
to the WH, but why SNowe?? She is not a democrat, she does not "owe" you anything (unless you are from Maine) adn she is probably the only republican that negotiated in good faith. Of course she is trying to get something closer to her position, she IS a republican, but a sane and rather decent one from what I know.

5. Because I do not want her option and I want her to know it. I don't care what she is like
this is about life and death with regards to healthcare!

6. Believe me, I am as passionate about getting a good
health care bill as te most passionate around here. I think that the system as it is is a disgrace. The point I was trying ot make was simply that sane and intelligent republicans that are willing to talk for real are a good thing and should not have mud thrown at them from out side. Even if dislike their point of view, even if you do not reach an agreement in the end. The dems will not hold "absolute power", such as it is, in Washington for ever. No matter what, it's not going to happen. That's the way of a democracy. And then (and until then), it is better to have a dialog with the likes of Olympia Snowe rather than a DeMint or Inhoffe. You should want to strengthen the position of these kind of honorable opponents (and no, they do not have to agree with you or me to be honorable, they are opponents, remember?) to increase the chances that when the switch of power happens they will be in a position of force and not one of weakness. There are hardly any reasonable republicans left in the Senate now. I don't say it is our fault that his is the case, definitely not, but do you think it would have been easier to have something good come from the Senate of there were 10 Snowe-clones there?
