"The Department of Education should not be producing paid political advertising for the president, it should be helping us to produce smarter students."

5. What, that's not the same thing as a lecture about politics like what Reagan did? |

8. As children don't often vote |
|
nor are parents really influenced by what their children tell them regarding who to vote for, I think whether it was an election year or not is irrelevant.
Any speech given by a president could be considered political. And as he hasn't published it yet, I think it's premature to say it is going to be entirely apolitical.

9. Notice how you didn't respond to the hypocrisy of that quote? |
|
That's my point about partisan politics, that is frankly not helping this country.
You saw no issue with opposing it then and supporting it now simply because of the party of the president doing it.
I would say it's either ok for everyone, or not ok for anyone (I think it is ok for any president BTW). I was merely pointing out how politics trumps morality for some.
And you helped me illustrate that, thank you.

7. I think all this hoopla is partisan nosense |
|
Part of the reason I have a major problem with organized political parties in general; namely they are motivated by party loyalty rather than objective standards.
What was acceptable to some and evil to others in 1991 is now reversed, simply because of party politics.
For clarity I think the presidents speech should be heard, regardless of which party he belongs to. I also think the outrage then by democrats, and now by republicans is idiotic.
