1. I don't watch him anymore - |
|
I'm sick of that pronunciation. It just make me think that Tweety is fellating CheeKnee, begging for his approval by "pronouncing that honored family name correctly."
No loss as far as I'm concerned. Tweety's far too spastic for me..................................

2. Kids often do not pronounce their name the way parents do. I, too, was told it was Chee-knee. |
|
If Liz wants 'Chay-knee', then she should be addressed that way.

Chris says that almost everyday.. it's nothing new. The reason he says it that way is because that is how Mrs. Lynn Cheney told him it is pronounced.

12. That's not unusual. I don't pronounce my last name as my parents do because it |
|
is FAR more likely to be mis-spelled if you say it their way.
That said, when I lived in Canada, I pronounced it correctly because it's Scottish and more common up there.

7. And I saw Mrs. Cheney say it's pronounced 'chee-knee'. |
|
It's like Cuba Gooding, Jr. said his name was pronounced "kooba", but I saw an interview with his dad who kept referring to him a Cuba (like the country) -- and he was Cuba Gooding Sr!
Maybe spawn just said it because she can't stand for Tweety to be right?

|
Edited on Fri Sep-04-09 04:50 PM by nc4bo
It IS his name afterall and suits him much better.
And Matthews has got to be the biggest asskisser ever. He's too full of himself to be embarrassed so I'll just gon on and be embarrassed for him.
As far as I'm concerned, the former VP of the U.S. will always be CHAIN-NEEE.

It is bullshit. You are quite correct about the Evil pawn's statement. I saw and heard it myownself with my own eyes and my own ears. He just likes to play "Insider". It is a direct result of his pathological self-aggrandizement.
Matthews: Self-absorbed Gasbag.

25. Whatever they say, it's wrong english to prohounce it that way! |
|
Look at any word starting with che where the e is followed by a consenant - chestnut, chest, chef, check, chemistry, cherry, cherub... the che is always pronounced with the soft "e" that sounds like "ay", not a hard "e" that sounds like the letter "e". Where che is followed by a vowel, it's a hard "e" that sounds like "ee" - cheap, cheat, cheek.
Even IF the Cheney's themselves pronounce their name "Cheeney", they're wrong (as they are about SOOOOO many things!). Proper pronounciation of "Cheney" is with the soft e "chay-nee".
Even if Chis Matthews wants to imitate the Cheney's improper use.

31. So Matthews has Charles Cook on. So I look up Mr. Cook on wikipedia |
|
(because I really no nothing about him) and amongst the descriptions there, I find that he claims to be non-partisan in his analysis. Ok, fine.
Well if that's the case, why did Mr. Cook just call the Democratic Party, the Democrat Party?
Heck of a slip I thought.
 No biggie, it's just something that made me go: Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

32. The maiden name of one of my good friends is Cheney and she insists the name is pronounced chee-knee |
|
Chris Matthews is right, but Cheney pronounces his name incorrectly because he doesn't want people to figure out what it rhymes with. I think a lot more people would be calling him Dick Weenie if they knew the correct pronunciation of his name.
