Rick Perry: Obama Speech "Disturbing," But Don't Skip School
Source: HuffPost Politics

APRIL CASTRO, AP -- Gov. Rick Perry called President Barack Obama's plan to speak to the nation's school children about the importance of education "disturbing," but he said he would not advise parents to keep their children home from school that day despite calls to do so from angry critics.

"I think it's disturbing when you get this message, that you will have your kids, in a forum where the president of the United States is, obviously he's got a message there," Perry said Thursday in an exclusive interview with The Associated Press. "Nobody seems to know what he's going to be talking about ... why didn't he spend more time talking to the local districts, superintendents?"

The White House announced this week that Obama plans to give a speech on the importance of education, aimed directly at the nation's school children, and streamed live on the White House Web site.

But Republican critics are calling it an effort to foist a socialist agenda on children. The conservative backlash has stunned teachers, principals and school districts who have been flooded with calls and e-mails from parents, many who don't want their children watching it and some who are threatening to keep their children at home in protest.

12. It's NOT about staying in school
It's about the message of serving your country, being a servant to the president

eventually it's creating a mentality for a military draft

29. Looks like you
believe the whole 'indoctrination' meme. For crissake, at least attempt to think critically, if that is at all possible.

Only complete morons believe there is some secret agenda going on here.

Heaven forbid that the president urge kids to do their best and stay in school. If he really had some super secret agenda it would be more likely that he'd want the masses uneducated.

30. Everyone here knows that the new kool-aid that comes in tea bags is deadly.
That stuff will kill you, amigo.

First, it rots your brain, causing violent dementia. Then it shrivels your heart until it turns black (at this point, you would rather see someone die than get health care that might save their life). The next stage is where it kills the soul - leaving you a stumbling, screaming, drooling zombie that gets instructions on how to think and act from Fox News.

Here, in this video, is just one example of someone that was once human, but became a mindless, drooling zombie after ingesting tea-bag kool-aid and then got marching orders from Fox:

Ronnie talking to school kids and pushing his big tax break agenda. Who got those cuts?? The wealthiest of the US,while he eliminated a tax bracket for middle class meaning a 4% tax INCREASE for most of us.

31. I saw a clip of that today
and he was SO BORING. You know the kids just tuned out, but the conservatives know that Obama is perceived as very cool by young people and I think that is what they're afraid of.

16. I'd have been delighted.
Kids look up to the office of the presidency; emphasizing hard work and education from that position in any rational world would be perceived as a good thing. The Republican politicization of this disgusts me, and I'd have been at least as disgusted if Democrats behaved this way. I almost can't believe the news I read anymore.

21. "Disturbing" *and* "Unpatriotic"!
Since he's not supporting a President during a time of war, etc.

Obama could announce he's reading the Constitution, and it would be deemed "disturbing", "socialist propaganda" and more.

15. Stoopid Man!
I couldn't believe what I was reading! To even imply that Prez
Obama was going to say anything that would be upsetting to
children in a speech is insane!Gov Perry, you're an arse!(as
my 90 yr old grandmother would say)
It's funny.I'm so angry that I can't type!My brain is going
far faster than my fingers can type.I've put Gov Rick Perrys
name to memory. We're sure to hear it again, attached to
something really stoopid is my bet!
Have you met your soulmate Perry?
Doesn't seem that the Republicans fight tooth and nail against
everything but what they, themselves think?OMG what a flippin
mess Bush left to Prez Obama!!! Can you imagine what Obamas
first few weeks in office must have been like?Lordy! To find
out all the lies, truths, misdeeds, behind the back, under the
table doings had been going on for 8 years?Four years that he
stole from us!I still can't believe something wasn't done.His
BROTHERS state??????Left us the laughing stock among all the
other things.Left us in the worse condition we have been in
since the depression.
He is our President! Stand with him!!!

24. What a crock!
I guess we can all see what the next 4 years will be like. Perry and his ilk are going to fight and criticize the Obama administration at every turn, no matter how benign or insignificant the issue. If Obama says "the grass is green," they will pretend to read something sinister into it and howl about it, preferably with TV cameras nearby. These people are giving new meaning to the term "sore loser."

26. How is talking about the importance of education "disturbing"?
The White House is releasing the full text of the speech Monday - 24 hrs before the live address - yet they are all in a lather that this is some kind of secret, sinister speech that no one knows what it will contain. I predict there will nothing objectionable at all in that speech an they will all look like the loons they are.

27. Sarah Palin is writing Rick Perry's speeches now.
I didn't really care what Sarah Palin was going to do after she finished toughing out 60% of her term as governor- but this article brought it to my attention anyway. And I quote:

"I think it's disturbing when you get this message, that you will have your kids, in a forum where the president of the United States is, obviously he's got a message there..."

Her grammatical fingerprints (and footprints) are all over this...

What's disturbing to Rick Perry and his ilk: if the kids spend enough time listening to their teachers and to President Obama, they may not grow up STUPID enough to become Republicans.

35. Yeah, the prospect of President Obama encouraging kids to get an education sure is disturbing!
Think about it: a bunch of Texas kids going home after school and saying "Hey, Mom! We saw this black guy on TV in school today, and he said he was President! And not only that: he also told us all not to drop out!" What can Texas moms do in that situation, except maybe wash their kids' mouths out with soap?

And how about all the little children who aren't white? How are they gonna feel when this guy gets on TV and tells them how important their education is?

I don't like to gossip, but did you know that Michelle lady stays with him in the White House? And she's a married woman! I'm really, really concerned by all this
