Indirect Economic Impact of Healthcare Reform |
|
I have a question guys... and I know the amazing research team here at DU could probably answer this fairly quickly.
What to you suppose is the indirect economic cost of so many people in this country not having affordable access to health care?
How much do companies lose in sick days and lost productivity when an employee is out for a week, when a trip to the doctor and a prescription could have him back on his feet and on the job again in two?
Some employer's attendance policies state that a person can't call in sick more than three days in a row without a doctors note. How many employees will continue to go to work because they can't afford to get a doctor's note... and thus give everyone in the office swine flu?
How many companies have had employees quit in order to act as a full time caregiver for an ailing relative? How much does it cost said company to train a replacement?
How much revenue have doctors and pharmaceutical companies lost because such a large portion of the population simply can't access them?
These are some of a million different questions that could really put the cost of Health Care Reform into perspective.. I mean seriously, how could we afford not too?
