Here's a link to his press release: http://www.ade.state.az.us/pio/Press-Releases/2009/pr09-03-09.pdf

If you want to shame him for his immature little outburst, you can log onto Facebook and become a fan of the Arizona Department of Education just long enough to leave a comment. The education department also has a comment page here: http://www.azed.gov/aboutade/iwanttotellyou.asp. And, if you're so inclined, you could write a LTTE of the Arizona Republic or the Arizona Daily Star. Both papers have carried Horne's remarks:

Arizona Daily Star

1. Sent him an e-mail.
We'll see if I hear back. His site says they'll leave it up to the teachers. I think parents should ask to be informed on Monday what their teachers decision will be. We'll learn a lot about teachers' political affiliations next week I guess.

People who want their children to be allowed to hear that president, should keep them home that day and let them hear it at home. Seems to me that if they have teacher who would deprive them of something that one day will be a historical moment for them to remember, spending time at home or anywhere else would be far more beneficial.

Too bad there isn't time for parents to get together and arrange for their friends' children to watch it together, together with film of the children's reaction. And that would be a memorable day for those kids.

I mentioned in my email that I am a teacher and don't remember any controversy over Bush speaking to school children. I asked if this was a new policy and if so, could they please explain the reasons for it. I doubt I'll hear back, but the more objections they get, the better imo.

3. That's a good idea. I just emailed my child's teacher to say that I want her to watch the speech.
Our district is also leaving it up to the teachers, saying that parents will hear something about it only if the teachers decide to show the speech to their classes. I may keep my daughter home, if her teacher doesn't want to let his students watch the speech (or if he doesn't respond to my email).

4. Good for you. I wonder if one day people will look back
at this as a historical moment when the first black president became the first president to elicit an objection to the children of what appear to be the descendents of haters, hearing him speak.

It's just my opinion, but I would keep my child home from school and make it a special day. One day in the future this may be remembered as the last gasp of racism in this country. And it seems to me that going to school where the president's speech to children is forbidden, is a silent agreement that it is okay.

Too bad there isn't time to organize a 'stay-at-home' protest against racism. Because they cannot claim otherwise. Presidents have been doing this forever and thesse people never thought their children were being indoctrinated, not even by Clinton. But Clinton really wasn't the 'first black president'.

So sad to see such hatred.

7. I agree. Even an apology is insufficient.
As if a repuke would ever actually apologize, anyway.

8. Military school children
here in southeastern arizona(Ft Huachuca),the teachers will decide if the student watch or go to the library,I was thinking, woudn't this be a great chance to check which kids refuse to watch the president. As commander in chief,I would send the father or mother of the kid or kids to a very remote post in alaska.
