Ex-soldier gets life sentences for Iraqi murders
Green convicted in rape and murder of teen and slaying of three relatives

updated 4:26 p.m. CT, Fri., Sept . 4, 2009

PADUCAH, Ky. - A former U.S. soldier received five consecutive life sentences Friday for his role in the rape and murder of an Iraqi teenager and the slaying of three of her family members.

"What the defendant did was horrifying and inexcusable," U.S. District Judge Thomas Russell said in sentencing Steven Dale Green, 24. "The court believes any lesser sentence would be insufficient."

A civilian jury convicted Green in May of raping Abeer Qassim al-Janabi, conspiracy and multiple counts of murder.

Green shot and killed the teen's mother, father and sister, then became the third soldier to rape her before shooting her in the face. Her body was set on fire March 12, 2006, at their rural home outside Mahmoudiya, Iraq, about 20 miles (32 kilometers) south of Baghdad.

My hope is this animal lives for many years so he can relive over and over why it is that he is locked up. dm

2. Another sad chapter in the life and times of dick and w the war criminals
the scoundrels who had no qualms with lying the country into an illegal war of choice culminating in the deaths of untold thousands of innocent lives and a country whose infrastructure all but has been destroyed. A place where it will not be safe to live for hundreds of years due to Deplete Uranium munitions used resulting, in over the years, thousands maybe even millions of deaths from radiation sickness and children born with deformities. Yes Green here needs to be locked up for the duration of his life but so should the monsters who are responsible for all this carnage, dick cheney and george w. bush deserve long prison sentences just like this animal.

5. They deserve it
But it isn't going to happen. And the current investigation by the Justice Department is nothing more then a reach around for those screaming the loudest for accountability.

But when the investigation is over, there will be no charges, no trials, no guilty parties.

It's unfortunate that the United States which led the charge for the Nuremberg trials, lacks the courage to apply the same justice to our own war criminals. The Justice Department under Bush did the same thing that the German courts did under Hitler, they made what was illegal, legal.

This definitely isn't the land of the free or the home of the brave anymore.:(

7. I don't believe that at all
about no accountability. I don't feel that we have to go after the bush/cheney war criminals with a vengeance. I believe smart prosecute will build their cases first and I believe that's what's going on now. In a few more months time if nothing has happened then I might be willing to listen to what you've got to say but not today. nothing personal mind you. :hi:

6. And if James A Baker, Jeb Bush, Roger Stone, Theresa LaPore, & the SCOTUS ..
.... had not interfered w/ the vote in Florida 2000 this would never have happened. Now Green might have
raped and killed somebody else but he would not have been in Iraq because Al Gore would have done something
after getting a CIA briefing that was titled bin Laden determined to attack the United States. And even if the United
States had been attacked Al would have gone after those who attacked us not a country that had nothing to do w/
the attack.

The leaders who got us into Iraq based on lies are just as guilty of these crime as the soldiers who did the acts.

13. Yes they are, every damn one of them
The whole damn crew will see jail time before this is all said and done, with the dick being one of the first to be. I truly believe that. I have confidence that justice will prevail on this cabal and their so called war on terror. I have the time to give them to make sure they get it right the first time.

9. I'm personally against the DP
as I don't see it as punishment when a person can believe that if they find jesus that when they die they go to heaven no matter the 'sin' they've commited. I want to know that this guy is going to live out many days of agony over what he done and for a long time

10. I hope his many days are filled with agony, but the convicted rarely prefer DP over a life sentences

He may be perfectly happy to live among his own kind reliving the sexual fantasy of raping and killing that poor girl as he lives out his many days. I'm sure the Brotherhood will protect this guy as a hero.

12. Maybe for a while but at some point it will be too much for him
or anyone for that matter to not be driven to the brink of insanity. I hope this animal lives to see the day he truly regrets the things he done, the lives he took.
thats what I think anyway
