What do you think of this ad?
The ad appears in the latest issue of Woodworker's Journal. For me it instantly invoked about the same level of revulsion as those Carl's Junior ads which depict men as so domestically challenged that they can't even feed themselves.

1. I like it...
Last I heard no guy ever lost a finger at Carl's Jr.
And if they DID, they are WAY too stupid to be using a electric saw in the first place.

I think the ad is cool MP and I'm curious to see what others think.

:hi:

4. What makes the ad seem out of place is it is high-end equipment
It is not something you pick up at Lowes on a Saturday afternoon. It is a professional-grade piece of equipment requiring installation, 220 volt power and an outlay of several thousand dollars.

3. OMFG
Where's the blade shield? Where's the anti kick-back device? Where is 'his' push stick? How come the operator in the lower picture isn't using OSHA approved gloves?

Meh, screw it, looks OK to me.

5. The chick in this ad ain't showing enough cleavage.
:sarcasm:

In all honesty it is pretty lame. What exactly is the implication here? That a woman could rest easy knowing her stupid husband wasn't going to saw his own hand off?

6. I think that's it, that she won't have to scrub blood out of the carpet

after she rushes him to the ER to get his fingers reattached.

Sigh. At least they didn't show her in a dress with pearls. She's dressed as though she's going to be using the thing from time to time, herself.

7. The product is SO great...
that I think they should have great leeway in sales campaigns. Wives do worry about those saws, and not without reason. If they ran a pic of a kid talking about "3 fingered daddy" I wouldn't object, either.

8. It's silly, and probably won't sell a lot of saws, but...
can I assume you've never had a discussion with a wife about the costs, and perhaps the dangers, of a new toy?

(I do hate that little picture of the guy about to lose half his hand-- the stop has been around a long time and works if you accidentally touch the blade, but you can't fix stupid.)
