Who believes progressives should unite to vote "No" on a TRIGGERED "public option"?

That is, who believes a triggered "public option" would be a reactionary victory for corporatism?

1. As I Understand It, The Public Option Wouldn't Be In Effect Until 2013
And the trigger notion would delay it even more. People are dying out there for lack of medical care, how long do they have to wait and how many will die while the pols dance around?

2. Delayed until
the GOP is in power again and then it will be determined that it isn't needed afterall.

This is a stalling tactic if I ever saw one.

The "trigger" has already been pulled. It was pulled decades ago when insurance companies started raking in the big bucks by denying access and denying claims. Now they want another chance?

No they don't. They won't change. They have proven thant time and again. This "trigger" won't change anything.

12. A trigger is not good enough.
I intend to ask any politician who will listen to vote "no" on "health insurance reform" if the best we can get is a public option with a trigger.

"trigger" which is nothing more than a gift of tax dollars to insurance companies.

14. No trigger
Trigger was a great horse but a lousy compromise to an already compromised healthcare "reform".

16. Dean is right, a trigger is not reform.
What is wrong with the congress and this administration? Do they really think no one is paying attention to what is going on?

17. Consider Medicare Part D had a "trigger."
A trigger is ineffective unless someone pulls it.

Congress is a body of wimps, crooks, and sellouts. They will never invoke the public option.

Health insurance reform without a public option is not reform at all. Progressives need to defeat this one.

And no waiting until 2013. Use reconciliation to open up Medicare within 6 months to anyone who wants it.

20. I want it fully and completely debated and here's why.
As soon as you start talking percentages of income - people will start doing the math.

The trigger kicks in when medical care costs for a family of 4 income of 60 grand hits say 15%. Well people do the math and come up with $9000 in premiums alone. Throw in another $3000-$5000 in additional out of pocket costs and countless hours battling to get the bills actually paid.

Then you tell them Medicare for all would cost everyone a straight 10% tax on gross income with only the small co-pays for doctor visits and prescriptions. No battle with the insurance companies. No worry if you or the kid gets sick. All for the rock bottom price of $7000 max - you get an instant raise of $5000 or more a year.

When it's all said and done - most Americans vote with their pocketbook.

22. Depends on the Trigger
in this thread

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x6475510

we're tossing around the idea of the current trigger, PLUS an "Hard Trigger" that automatically, without conditions, starts a full Blown Public option in, say, 2 or 3 years at most, whatever we agree to.

The idea is to let the insurance companies have some time to get into this new market, while the current trigger keeps them honest, and then to have the fully functional, robust, kick-ass, Public Option we all so desperately want after only a very short delay.

Think it over, please.
