Police: Kids photographed with guns, parents arrested
Police: Kids photographed with guns

NEW YORK, Sept. 5 (UPI) -- The New York parents of an 11-month-old and a 5-year-old were arrested for allegedly photographing the boys with guns, authorities said.

Angela Haynes, 24, and Jesse Kendall, 27, of the New York borough of Queens, "thought it would be funny to take the photos with the kids and the guns," police said in court records.

The couple were arrested after Haynes e-mailed the photos to friends and relatives and one of the recipients contacted the Administration for Children's Services, The New York Post reported Saturday.

1. Wonder who ratted them off?
Seems like harmless fun to me, since they were apparently being supervised the whole time. Must have been some spiteful family member who received that e-mail and decided to "drop a dime" on the couple.

2. The charges...
Haynes and Kendall were charged with endangering the welfare of a child, criminal possession of a weapon and possession of marijuana, police said.

So one or both of them were prohibited from owning firearms = "criminal possession of firearm"
When Police executed search warrant they found marijuana = "possession of marijuana"

However unless the firearms were loaded how do you get "endangering welfare of a child"?

All in all you got to be a special kind of idiot to be in criminal possession of both firearm & drugs and decide to draw attention to yourself.

4. Those second two charges are pretty substantial
and certainly warrant penalties.

However, they never would have found those if they hadn't searched on the "endangering the welfare of a child thing".

Handing a child a loaded gun and telling him to have fun would be dangerous. Handing him an unloaded gun while you're standing right there and telling them the appropriate way to behave is not really dangerous.

A lot of factors at play here, I don't know the full details so this may be the right charge, or not.

5. They made a video too.

More seriously, I don't approve of posing children with guns unless they can follow the four rules completely. Obviously no 11-month old can and most 5-year olds can't even with close supervision.

1. Treat ALL firearms as if they were loaded.
2. DO NOT point at or cover anything with the muzzle until ready to shoot.
3. Keep trigger finger off the trigger and outside the trigger guard until ready to shoot.
5. Be certain of your target and your line of fire.
