Where is the problem with reich wingers who don't want their kids to hear Obama? |
|
Edited on Sat Sep-05-09 12:16 PM by gopsucks1
Let the parents who object have their way and don't let their kids listen to the speech. The other kids can listen to the president tell them to work hard and do well in school. They can then grow up, become successful and the kids who didn't hear the speech can work for them.
I don't see any problem with that.

1. I'm thinking the dinosaurs are pretty much going to be working for others no matter what. |
|
It's crazy how their paranoia about "control" is the product of their own dependence upon authority.

2. The problem is that everything that the President does has been hyper politicized |
|
This small group of idiots has been abetted by the media in creating an increasingly hostile environment. I am not about forcing people to do anything, but these assholes are. Their whining has caused spineless administrators to not show the speech even for parents who do want their kids to be able to see it.

3. schools are opting NOT to air the President- |

and the bigotry and hatred being spewed by those who object is foul- and being portrayed by the media as legitimate complaints.
If we had responded like this to a bush affair, we'd have been crucified by the media.-

9. Wouldn't be the first time that schools censored arbitrarily in favor of certain parents. |
|
I had a goddam MUPPET movie, that I had been using for years and had ALWAYS gone through proper channels for approval AND my students LOVED it and talked and wrote a lot about it's message of accepting responsibility in your family censored. The best reason I could figure out for the censorship was that it had David Bowie in it as the Goblin King and maybe the bible-thumping fundies in that town who were always out and about making "God's" will known to everyone thought David Bowie was "satanic".
Perhaps you have seen this movie; it's called The Labyrinth and I used it as part of my General Psychology: Adolescent Development unit. It's whole theme was about taking responsibility for the control of your own life. The young heroine explicity banishes the Goblin King in the end. Lots of music, Muppets, dancing, clever story, my students loved it and it made them think and talk about growing up.

8. If the kids hear him speak... |
|
...they'll realize he's not the boogie-man, and the parents could very well end up looking like idiots to their children. (They already look like idiots to us....lol.)

16. Conservatives hate public school |
|
I think it has something to do with tax dollars first and the fear that they may lose partial control, of the complete indoctrination of their kids, with frightening possibilities like social studies, government and science, second. Keep 'em all home. Send 'em all to private religious schools or homeschool after all if the girls are just going to be mothers all they need is the Bible, bare feet, and a stove. They will all be moving to armed survivalist camps soon anyway. Conservative Reservations. Hell, give 'em Texas. Fuck them, they hate America.
