Anyone in Georgia know an agency or charity that can help the uninsured? |
|
On another message board I frequent, the following message:
"I’ve got a good friend of mine who just started a new job and she doesn’t yet have health insurance ...
She got up early one morning to go to the bathroom and tripped over her dog and did a face-plant on the hard-wood floors ...
She busted out two of her front teeth and dislocated her jaw ... That was a month ago . . .
I sent her a note last night to see how she’s doing and she responded:
I am not getting better. I am getting worse. My jaw is still dislocated, and I am in pain 24/7. I have exhausted every social service here in Georgia. I plan to drive to the UAB Dental School, emergency facilities next week. They have been closed for the Labor Day extended holiday. I hope they will help me, because no one else will."
Anyone have any ideas?

1. Any way she can get to Tennessee? |
|
I looked on the Remote Area Medical site and they're going to have a clinic September 19 and 20 in Roane County. God - how sad this is. Maybe you could call her 'puke members of Congress for help. They seem to think there are plenty of resources for the uninsured, maybe they could name one.

2. The dental school might be able to help her cosmetically |
|
with those broken teeth, but they'll refer her to a surgeon for that dislocated jaw.
If she's lucky, it's dislocated. It could be broken. Then again, she might just have some tendon damage that will heal over time. The dental school will be able to evaluate it by X ray but they won't be able to treat it.
No one should ever have to live in that kind of pain. I can relate to what she's going through. I once hopped around on a broken ankle all weekend waiting for an urgent care to open at 7 AM Monday because I couldn't afford an ER.
The dental school is a good idea for her, though. At least she'll know what she's dealing with.

http://search.aol.com/aol/search?s_it=topsearchbox.search&q=help+for+medically+uninsured+in+Ga.I googled "help for medically uninsured in Ga.", and this is what I found. Good luck to your friend. She should also call her elected state and Fed. reps.

5. Has she checked with her county government? |
|
My county has a Health Department for those who are uninsured or even if you have insurance. One year my doctor couldn't get the flu vaccine but I was able to get it at the county Health Dept. Ours has a dental department, too. Hope your friend finds someone to help her.
