Polls find OVERWHELMING support for Obama's school speech
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2009/9/5/777475/-Polls-find-OVERWHELMING-support-for-Obamas-school-speech

Two new polls suggest that the much-covered conservative outrage over President Obama's planned speech to schoolchildren is a manufactured hissy fit representing the sentiments of a fringe minority.

The polls, one taken on the "Left Coast" of California, the other in "The Heartland" of Missouri, show massive support for the president's speech to American students about the importance of education.

(snip)

In each case, twice as many people say the speech is "appropriate" as those who say it is not. In Missouri, nearly three-quarters of respondents say they would want their children to "pay attention" to the president's message on the importance of education. In Fresno, nearly four out of five people say so.

In Missouri, fewer than one out of five people would take the extreme step of keeping their children out of school the day of the president's speech. In Fresno, fewer than 3 in 20 would do so.

(snip)

However, as with the health-reform debate, the media are amplifying the protestations of a fringe minority, lending them credence by virtue of nothing more than their volume.

1. Most likely that is probably the publics actual approval for Obama also
It wasn't that long ago during the primaries that the media was pushing how much palin brought to the republican ticket

One thing I know, if insight is present by the American media, don't trust it

2. And let's get to the seamy underside of objection here . . .
If you were, say, a white racist no-thumber, wouldn't you want *this* president strongly encourging people of darker hue than yourself to stay in school, get jobs, and hence not mug you later in life? I mean, that's the tar pits these "war on education" demagogues are wallowing in.

5. this is good news
I wish the wingnuts weren't so damn loud and obnoxious... they create the impression that there's actually a valid cause for debate over this speech.

7. Heh.
I'm sure Obama has more important people to talk to than school kids. This speech does a fine job of making the rightwing nuts look like knuckle dragging idiots and rallies the left wing to point at them.

Nice bit of political theatre. The Repubs are clearly overmatched, it's almost a pity they are no more of a challenge than they are.

12. Not showing it in Naples, Florida
They are "afraid" that what he says will be too controversial. When a teacher asked why not and I told her what was said she said, "So now they are CENSORING the President of the United States too?"

14. I'm saddened this kind of poll even exists.
And frankly, I'm not all that thrilled about the results.
