County GOP Official Faces Solicitation Case

William Coder

Lancaster, PA - The executive director of the county Republican Committee was arrested for alleged solicitation of prostitution in Lancaster on Thursday night and has resigned his position. William R. Coder, 25, of the 1300 block of Union Street, was arrested by city police about 11 p.m. Thursday in the 100 block of South Water Street, Sgt. Bill Hickey said.

The area, located between West Vine and Farnum streets about three blocks from Penn Square, is notorious for prostitution activity. GOP Chairman Craig Ebersole said Coder gave him a letter of resignation in person Friday and acknowledged being arrested for the alleged offense. "He maintains his innocence," Ebersole said. Coder, who is married, had been the GOP's top administrator since August 2008. Reached for comment, Coder said he was driving home from a class that had ended at 10:30 p.m. at Harrisburg Area Community College's Lancaster Campus and was "at the wrong place at the wrong time."

Coder declined to answer specific questions about what led to his arrest. "I guess as far as specifics I really don't have anything to add," he said. "What you heard from Craig and the city is true. "But I do maintain my innocence," he said. "I feel as if it was a misunderstanding as well as a lapse of judgment in being at the wrong place at the wrong time. I'm certainly regretful for it," he said. "But what the police allege I did, I believe, is not an accurate account of what happened," Coder said. "I respectfully disagree and maintain my innocence."

*snip*

Coder also had served as chairman of the county Young Republicans, co-chairman of the GOP voter registration committee and was a committeeman in the city. Coder is a graduate of First Baptist Academy in DuBois, Clearfield County, and Lancaster Bible College with a degree in Bible and pastoral ministry.

- Well, with a degree in the bible and in being a pastor we can be certain of one thing: he was up to no-good. But whatever he was doing down there in the dead-of-night with what I'm certain are also "innocent young ladies" -- while the Mrs. Coder waited for him at home while his dinner grew cold, I sure as hell hope that at least he's been practicing safe-sex. I mean because now that he's had to go and quit his job he won't have any health insurance.

And it'd be a terrible time to get an STD and have no insurance right now, wouldn't it Bunkie????

6. So what happens if Jebus doesn't see their commitment that way?
What happens if one "makes it" and the other doesn't?

2. The only person I know who has accidentallly picked up a prostitute
Is my best friend from high school. Right after college, he got a good job and after staying really late one night at the office, he stopped at a coffee shop to get something to keep him awake on his long drive home. It was snowing heavily, and a girl scantily clad for the weather asked him if she could have a ride home. The apartments she said she lived at were on his way so he said yes. When they arrived, she was confused that he didn't want to come up to her place. He said he was really tired and needed to get home, shut the door after she got out, and waved good-bye. Two miles down the road he realized she was a prostitute, and he had just cost her a night's pay.

7. Alternately....
Edited on Sat Sep-05-09 10:04 PM by DeSwiss
...it may have been the first time in a long while since someone's saw her as just a person. Not a prostitute. Where someone's done something for her and didn't want a piece of her as well. No one pawing at her. No one sliding their hands onto her body where they weren't asked to be, but always have to pay to be - first. Just someone helping another person out on a cold and lonely night. Your friend could very well made her night in ways he never thought.

- At least, that's the way I'll think of this story from now on.....

on edit: spelling

10. I was pitching a potential client in Charlotte
(about 12 years ago, actually, almost to the day) and at about 1:30 am or so a knock came on my door and a very energetic and happy young girl said, "hi I'm here!" "For what," I asked. "I think you have the wrong room."

I never realized that I was being cold-called until later when I was sharing the story with someone who saw it right away.

3. To be truthful I don't see any indication that he is married. He is only 25. Still no excuse.
My angle was going to be... He couldn't find a good Christian woman to take care of his needs? Don't they encourage young Republicans to get married as early as possible?
