1. I'm officially offended by this comic strip! |
|
I don't believe every conspiracy theory that comes down the pike...
I only believe the ones that are true.

15. Have to be a donor to post in that group |
|
Which may be for the best 'cause otherwise the group may become a very wild place keeping the mods hopping.

8. Weird. Garry Trudeau is nowhere near as smart as I'd thought. Every sensible person |
|
on good faith knows that it's the most natural thing in the world for the mighty to conspire against the public good.
I'd thought that's what Doonesbury was mainly into. Certainly, Adam Smith made no bones about it in relation to businessmen. In his view, they NEVER missed an opportunity, however unremarable the occasion of the get-together.

13. Not all conspiracy theories are the same |
|
There is a huge, huge difference between rationalism and pseudo skepticism.
I'm going to get made fun of for posting this. But as far as ghosts you have various forms of circumstantial evidence. You have audio recordings, video recordings, electromagnetic changes, temperature variations, eyewitness testimony.
With birtherism there is no evidence.
There is a huge difference between status quoism and incredulism (which is what passes for 'skepticism' nowadays) and legitimate skepticism, which is following the evidence wherever it takes you. The US selling weapons to Iran was a silly conspiracy theory once, then Iran Contra happened.
I know the response will probably be a litany of insults. But rejecting everything merely because it is 'weird' w/o even examining the evidence is not skepticism. That is the antithesis of skepticism.
