An unexpected remembrance of Sen. Ted Kennedy
This afternoon, I was teetering back and forth between "to buy" or "not to buy" a vintage Olivetti Valentine manual, portable typewriter on eBay. It's not a huge extravagance, but not an everyday purchase, either. It was actually my first and successful purchase on eBay.

Then, I read the fine print on the typed page the seller had photographed to demonstrate that the machine is functional. From German to English, it reads: "An era has come to its end in the US. Senator Edward Kennedy, called Ted, the last survivor of a great dynasty of politicians, and one of the most influential US politicians, died at the age of 77 because of brain cancer."

I've asked the seller to send me the sheet of paper when he ships the typewriter.

1. That is very cool. And interesting.
I sure do hope they send the sheet of paper.

And I think the typewritter is snazzy. Don't believe I've ever seen a red one anywhere.

Cheers.

2. Unfortunately, he trashed it.
Just when he put it up on auction, he typed in the headline of the newspaper that day.

There's a pink one of these, too. It's a design piece (it's in MOMA even,) made it 1969 by Ettore Sotsass. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olivetti
The one I used to have is the one pictured above the Valentine, the Lettera. Fun thing is that we now start to look and buy the things we once had and trashed.

:hi:
