School board stands firm: no hoodies

A hooded sweatshirt ban was upheld at Wednesday night's Lafayette Parish School Board amid a large turnout from students and parents speaking out against recent bans.

The School Board banned cell phones and hooded sweatshirts from all Lafayette Parish public schools the last meeting before Aug. 11, citing privacy and classroom disruption as reasons.

School officials said students used hoods to conceal head phones and text messaged inside the sweatshirt's unipocket.

A reconsideration of the hooded sweatshirt ban was on Wednesday meeting's agenda.

The bans have caused an outcry from students who have threatened protests and mobilized through mass text messages and social networking Web sites.

That any post complaining about education is going to have at least one grammatical or spelling error.

3. It seems that it would be easier to simply have a policy of "no hoods up"
during class. Hoodies are inexpensive cool weather clothing and banning them outright seems impractical.

4. Well, that sure wouldn't work here in Minnesnowta...
Hoodies are kid stuff compared to the parkas everyone wears during our less than tropical winters.
