In need of a VOICE -- A serious question. Hope it leads to ideas and action: |
|
HOW do we, the "silent majority" get a broadcasting network -- the vocal chords necessary to propagate our VOICE? I'm serious; I think it's the only way to focus on and disseminate truthful communication.
So, how do we get the ball rolling? (remember FOX did not start out as the behemoth it is now)
I believe liberals ARE the silent majority -- we are the people who care about others and OUR ordinary lives and struggles -- it's just that many who have no access to our voice don't know they are liberal at heart.
As communicating beings, voice is critical -- and those who wish to own power know that it is their one-way communication that cements their views as the supposed linchpin of the culture.
I don't believe the fearful, ignorant, uneducated and hateful are the majority. But they get all the airtime, as the useful idiots of the corporate kings. Since it's the corporate kings who own the airwaves, their minions are the ones who have voice.
So, how do we GET A NETWORK?

3. yes, no argument there.. |
|
still, the internet is a huge array of varying views and can't compare to the few concentrated broadcasting networks which reach more people....

5. Ok, so you are not looking for a voice so much as you are looking for |
|
an audience. (There's nothing wrong with that, just making sure I understand.)
Personally, I don't understand why people don't protest in the streets more. I'm thinking of standing in front of a bank with a big sign just to see what people will say. It's dumb if a few people do it, but if consumers and taxpayers got in the habit of speaking out, they would be dismissed less. IMO.

but to me it seems the liberal/progressive voice is squelched. Anyway, I think we need a broadcasting network; more than just a couple of analysts at one hour each. People hunger for trustworthy information. The audience would be there if the voice wasn't so small as to be easily shouted down.
I don't understand why people don't speak up more too... but where I work, I've see how it goes. Like getting physically hurt due to management's sidestepping certain safety rules--happened to me and when I asked colleagues to speak up with me (was close to getting a lawyer), no one would! They wouldn't even write their story anonymously. Even though a scarily large number had similar experiences.
Time and again, I am the only person who speaks up, registers a complaint. People will complain amongst themselves but even speaking up in a small way, people just won't do it.

2. I wish I had some good ideas. So far we do have some voice |
|
via MSNBC, with Rachel, Keith and Ed. Having tried direct communication with family has not worked. Frankly I could go the rest of my life and not speak to yet another bigot. I have been out of the closet for years and years and have tried various ways to make them understand. You cannot make the close minded think...

they are the people who will only accept info from "An Authority" figure.... teevee is their god. That's why we need some ideas.
we don't have cable, and don't watch much teevee (my hun is a bit brainwashed, being a big tv watcher and seems to listen only to his rw fundie brother. He get's very angry if we start to discuss politics. huh. At least I was able to send him a simple to the point pic rebutting the birther thing. We do best when we avoid all politics. Maybe MSNBC, with Rachel, Keith and Ed can expand -- as it gets larger, it would get more audience and the idiocy would retreat.)
So, I wonder, how can Rachel, Keith and Ed grow?
There must be people here at DU who HAVE access to media execs and investors. That what we need, I think -- investors unified for fact and integrity

8. I had hopes that it would be Current TV. |
|
It seems like such a great idea, but it doesn't seem to have grown the way I hoped it would here in the states.
