U.S. expands H-1B fraud case against IT services firm
Source: ComputerWorld

September 7, 2009 12:01 AM ET

Computerworld - The U.S. government late last month filed a new, expanded 18-count indictment that now seeks $4.9 million from a New Jersey IT services firm it has accused of fraudulently using H-1B visas.

The government alleges that South Plainfield, N.J.-based Vision Systems Group Inc. paid its H-1B workers in multiple states based on low prevailing wage rates in Iowa through the creation of shell businesses in that state.

The indictment charges that the methods used by Vision Systems "have substantially deprived U.S. citizens of employment."

The initial 10-count indictment against Vision Systems, filed on Feb. 12, was part of a government investigation dubbed Operation Pacific Vision that led to the arrest of 11 people in six states on H-1B fraud charges.

Court documents show that the expanded indictment cut the amount sought by $2.5 million; no explanation for the reduction was given. But it is still the largest H-1B fraud case ever brought by the government.

1. No fraud to be seen here!!!! Everything is just fine.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!

:sarcasm:

That $4.9 Mil should be used to assist those who lost or were deprived employment. The owners and stakeholder in the company - jail time.

7. What is good for Corporate America, doesn't mean it's good for the American People.
Corporate America will NEVER give a shit about the American People.

Too bad our alleged representatives cannot or won't figure that out.

5. Send them all back, and their families. IT jobs for Americans in America
When you end H-1B visas, a huge chunk of the IT field goes back to work.

8. IT jobs
I have seen in California in the hotel business that Amercans are hired, but do not stay at work ...they cannot cope with the jobs ... the inmigrants however do those jobs... managers have a hard time with these situation ... some American workers give up their jobs after their first day ... it is amazing! There is a two sides to the story ...

12. more anti-american worker bigotry
Edited on Tue Sep-08-09 10:49 AM by mule_train
why is this 'tolerated' on DU?

here, we have an article about fraud being prosecuted in IT, and we have some anti-American worker bigot come in and say 'well in the Hotel business, immigrant good, American citizen bad', like that has any relevance to IT even if it WERE more than just anti-American bigotry

why is it that nobody ever get's tombstoned on DU for that?

9. You just can't help yourself, can you?
Every time the subject of immigrants or non-Americans comes up you can't help but show your true colors.

11. what kind of 'representatives' support open foreign gangsterism against their own citizens?
Edited on Tue Sep-08-09 10:37 AM by mule_train
can anyone deny that's what H-1b is all about?

so why aren't the Durbin/Grassley reforms getting more support, from the house the senate and the president?

(yes, the administration is prosecuting here. but they defended Bush's backdoor F1 work vis extension, that frees up about 23,000 H-1b visas for general use)
