My rough weekend

Fell in a river full of spawning salmon. Hurt my shoulder, hip, back,leg,camera, and pride. The salmon are OK. Have you ever smelled the water from a river where millions of salmon are doing the aquatic be-bop and dying?

with all the beat up parts I overlooked one. Evidently when I went down I tried to land on my hand. I have this gawd awful bruise on the pad of my hand extending up my wrist and arm. That one just started hurting.

9. Well so far the siege has been pretty mild

3. The last thing that goes...

is their hearts. Fitting for a noble creature like the salmon.

I used to live on a salmon stream here in Washington. By the time the Coho got to my place they looked like hell. I necropsied a few who didn't make it all the way...... no intestines, no fat, nothing but roe or sperm sacs..... and that heart.

The smell? Well, think of it as the last gift of the salmon to their offspring... a fertile creek to feed their next generation.

flyfished my entire life and was never on a river when a spawn occurred. It was very cool to see.

5. I know the feeling, intimately

my parents house was literally, 30 yards or so from a substantial creek, where the Salmon would spawn/and die off.

The smell has always been pretty foul.
