I can understand the protest about their child seeing the President
I don't agree with it--but I understand it.
They should have been allowed to keep their little budding serial killers home--but ALL the public schools in this country should have been required to show this speech or lose federal education funding.
Every single fucking one of them. They allowed the POTUS to be seen as someone they should be afraid of. Someone who wasn't trustworthy. Someone who had to be "kept from them".
They were ALLOWED to demonize the office of the POTUS. They were ALLOWED to demonize Democrats. All at our expense.
Our school district is close to 80% Black. The school board/superintendent is 100% white.
The speech was NOT shown here. It wasn't announced until THIS MORNING that they weren't showing it. I just about GUARANTEE that the MAJORITY of parents wouldn't have minded the kids to see it.
This was a slap in the face to everyone who voted for Obama. This was a slap in the face to every Democrat.
These RW crazies that sit at the top of our school districts were able to FORCE their politics upon the children and the parents.
Let THEM opt out of school...why was the burden placed on those who WANTED to see the speech? Why not just on the crazies who didn't?

1. All those schools sure will take any funding they can get
Federal, state or local.

But they like the rest of the tea bagging, religious warmongering right wing Beckerheads, cherry-pick what they want to participate in.

3. Bunch of Cowards!
The administrations who refused to show the President's address are simply cowards. They let a small group of crazy assholes dictate what they will or will not do. This must come to an end. President Obama is the President of the United States. As President, any address he makes to school children should be shown to all school children in public schools.

We have to stop letting the assholes run things. If the school in your area did not allow children to hear the President, the administration should be deluged with real mail with stamps on it. They should be forced to make a public statement about why they refused to allow their students to hear from the President of this country.

I'm sick of this. I will be finding out which schools in my city did and did not show the speech. Those that did not will hear from me, both in a letter and on my blog and website. We must call administrators who are cowards to account for their actions.

5. The thing is that 100 % of the kids could care less about
a speech from anyone. Why would people get so worked up? Can they forget their childhood so easily?

6. I'm sure that those that want to see it will get to see it. If the school has broad band they can ..
Edited on Tue Sep-08-09 12:03 PM by GivePeaceAchance
see it any time on cspan.com . Sure in real time would of been great but everyone interested can see the speech. As long as he spoke to them that's the main thing. We don't have to worry about the GOP circus we have to work around it and outwit them at every corner we're smart we can do that. The thing is the speech got such promotion everyone will watch it and even on the right secretly watch it. This speech in the end will get more attention than any education speech ever given before we can in some ways thank them for promoting it so much.

9. I think it's a reasonable one though more people will see it than ever before due to the hype....
Ironically it's a success story.

7. Demonizing the office of POTUS
So hilarious, hopefully they will never see the chance to have that bite them in the butt.

If there ever is another Repuke Pres, we need to remember this and do the same kind of insane shit they are doing now.

11. Got a link for that?
Because I never heard that one, but I do know my kids watched his speech. I never got a letter from school, never required a permission slip, etc.

12. They don't want their children to become comfortable with a Black President.
They may grow up not following their parents' racist path.

They're sick.

13. I honestly don't think it is about controlling what THEIR kids watch
as much as controlling OTHER peoples kids.
If that were the issue, just keeping them home from school would have sufficed.
However, they wanted to STOP everyone's kids from watching an intelligent, well informed Black President because, IMHO, I don't believe that they want Black kids to be inspired. They have been able to keep an entire race down with their antics for generations with few role models other than entertainers or athletes, but here is an EDUCATED Black man that tells them that the world is theirs for the taking...if they work hard and aspire. That is a message that has been lost on school age Black kids for generations and they want to keep it that way.
