5. He ws elected to deliver RESULTS, not simply nice speeches. LIke every battle in this |
|
war for the country's future, the specifics of this speech will fade very quickly, as will the controversy ginned up by the reich-wingers. There will be little or no actual gain from this. The cons will just move onto the next issue or event that Fuck Nuze instructs them to scream about. The Dems will simply flounder their way to a defeat on whatever agenda item is placed before them. Notice how much press Dr. Tillers assassination has received lately? The availability of medical procedures for choice is continuing to disappear. The health insurance "fix" continues to leave out coverage for anything resembling family planning. But the Dems have abandoned any actions on that topic. Speeches mean shit at this point. Especially ones that address nothing but platitudes. Now, if the Prez. would give a real aggressive defense of true heath care reform, there might actually be some resulting actions that produce something. But platitudes about staying in school, etc. mean nothing. And produce nothing. As politics is constituted here and now, the repukes will continue to set the agenda and terms and the Dems will follow with their ineffective "defense" of their positions. Chess, my ass. The Dems are playing following the leader and the leaders are all across the aisle.

Can the man go take a shit without being criticized?
Today was not about health care, not about foreign policy...not about democrats, or the fucked up right-wing.
You may think platitudes about staying in school means and produces nothing....are you a young black kid - NO I thought not.
Since Obama came into our lives, many teachers have told him that they are seeing minority kids doing better - especially African American kids.

16. In this case, words matter to kids who are easily influenced. These kids need |
|
to be inspired. For adults he needs to provide results, for America's children his words will do just fine in this instance.

6. Yeah, he's good. Tomorrow's should be skyrockets... |
|
As for the tears in the eyes -- he gets Mr. H every single time. Me, too. I'm glad I remembered to turn on the tv when I did. Then I promptly turned it off -- I don't want to listen to MSNBC and CNN walk all over it and "explain" it for us.

8. ...and that's why they put up such a fuss. |
|
Because Obama is an incredibly effective speaker. I'm sure most kids came away from that speech liking him a little more.
Can't have our kids liking the President, now can we?

14. And they are afraid he will persuade people with that ability |
|
Or, "brainwash." They want that for themselves, just too bad McPain couldn't do it, or Bush, or Cheney, or Phailin. That's the thing they are mad about.

18. Why did they NOT want kids to see this? |
|
Edited on Tue Sep-08-09 12:30 PM by Jeff In Milwaukee
Because Obama can change the political orientation of this country for the next generation.
What happens if every kid who was ten years old last fall matures to the age of eighteen with Barack Obama as President? What happens after eight years of responsible, inspiring leadership? How are these kids going to vote when they see first-hand the difference between a politics that puts people first and a culture of corruption?
My son was ten years old last year and my daughter was fourteen, and they're going to grow to young adulthood in a country lead by an African American. These kids aren't going to be ripe for recruitment by the neanderthal right, and they're not going to be swayed by ancient hatreds. The fears and resentment that are the primary tools of the Republican Party will have no effect on them.
Conservatism as we know it is in for a very long, dark night.
