1. That's so refreshing.
It's a sad day when the president of the United States is made to seem like the enemy of the nations' schoolchildren.

22. I can't wait for my grandchildren to get home from school today
I told them all this morning that they would have a very special speaker deliver a message to all of the children on their first day of school. "Who, who" they all wanted to know, but I wouldn't tell them, just that they should pay close attention.

I can't wait until they come home so that I can ask them what they thought about the speech.

39. No. He just has writer's block. The page in front of him has
a circle and some lines, but no writing. Maybe he is a visual kid.

He seems to be focusing very hard. His mind is not straying. He is trying to think what to say about the speech. That's great.

It's great whether the kids reject or adore Obama or his ideas. They are being challenged to think.

My husband was horrified to discover that in a first year English class in a community college, quite a few of his students could not write a critical essay.

I loved Obama's speech, but I think it would be great to hear the comments of the kids-- positive and negative about it. It struck me as the kind of universally accepted truisms that no one could possibly disagree with much, but I will bet that some of the kids thought it was way too optimistic about what they can achieve in life.

53. Proves Republicans are Nuts
When the Republicans cannot even muster an ounce of good conduct to support the duly elected President of the United States in his commendable outreach the schoolchildren of America to urge them to do their best, it is a sad, sad day.

This has been a lesson for us all. As if there was any doubt, we have been taught this lesson: Republicans are ignorant and racist, and we should pull the plug on them.
